so long as it's got Snell or ECE

Just to add to the conversation, there's another organization testing and rating helmet safety that's been around for a few years now.

http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ is another good resource of safety information when considering a new helmet. I like how they have safety ratings for different parts of the helmet. They don't have every helmet on there, but they do have a lot of the more popular brands/models.

?? What does a Pin lock have to do with fogging?

I have 4 Icon helmets, The oldest I hardly use anymore due to its age. But with years of use none of my helmets have broken or had any defect. The windscreens are very resistant to fog, especially if coupled with a breath box.

Sorry yours provided a crap experience. Maybe it was a fluke?

My Gf and her father Use primarily Shark Lids and they love them.

I Do ride with helmets that have a pin lock for the added security and performance. My Gf has switched over to a Modular. I don't trust modular Helmets and they are a bit heavy. Also from time to time I catch her ridding without hers completely latched.

If you want a helmet- READ REVIEWS of the specific model you seek to purchase. There are so many things to consider

-HEad Shape?
-Ventilation and trim?
-Breath Box compatable
-Blue tooth compatable
-Pin Lock
-Weight
-DOT/SNELL ratings
-Price
-Graphics

------------------------------------------------
I love icon helmets and I have a couple HJC, AFX and Fly racing lids.
I had some Fox atv helmets but not anylonger. And ages ago a Bell Sled lid.

Most were good. Maybe not the cheapest- bell or HJc lids I tried.

Pinlock is the anti-fogging insert inside the visor.

Motorcycle Superstore just put last year's Scorpion EXO-410 graphics on a deal-of-the-day closeout for $80. This is a Snell 2010-rated helmet that's still in the lineup. Screaming deal.

TODAY ONLY - OCTOBER 29.

I have a Scorpion EXO-700 and it's a good lid.

I paid $200 for this exact helmet and am very happy with it. Plus it matches the Kawi green pretty well.

Too bad this is a round internal shape; I need a helmet with a chin curtain that fits for this winter.

Is that the fabric across the chin that's supposed to block wind? Mine has that.

Yesterday I went and tried on the LS2 FF386 and I have to say that I am quite impressed with its quality. Has a 4 star rating on http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testsratings/ls2-ff386 and is ECE rated as well as DOT. This Modular is one of the only ones that I found on Sharp that stayed closed 100% of the time during testing. Fits way better than my Fulmer which I can now see is pure crap next to this one and was more expensive than the LS2. Throttle City Cycles in Pasadena, TX is selling the LS2 to me for $140 after taxes. Their website is still being fully loaded with all of their stock, but I will definitely be going back to them for other accessory needs.

Balaclavas work MUCH better than helmet chin curtains IMHO.

I have the Freeze-Out one from Cycle Gear. Use it all the time. Just the thing for shoveling snow.

BTW the EXO-410 got a four-star rating from SHARP.

http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testsrati...orpion-exo-410

That's better than most of the Arais they tested.

Not bad for an $80 helmet, eh?

Which probably says as much about the test as about the helmet, but that's a separate discussion.

I second this, for my first season I was just using a bandana, second season I got the Balaclava and it was 10x better

I have read up on the Sharps testing and it seems to be a lot more involved and demanding than either the DOT or ECE. Not sure how it compares to the Snell tests. But it does show that the cost of a helmet doesn't mean ****.

I love mine, only worn my full face once since getting the modular. The fit, comfort, quietness, venting, everything about it feels like a good investment.

Mine developed a hot spot right at my forehead after all day of wearing it, but a strong mashing with a thumb got that taken care of.

Nice decent helmet and relatively cheap!

I can't wait to pick mine up, after putting it on I just feel unsafe wearing the Fulmer I have now

Everybody who's considering buying a helmet should read this page. More importantly, read some of the links on helmet safety ratings and testing.

There are also some good articles there about how important comfort and fit are. (If you don't wear a helmet because it's uncomfortable, it doesn't matter how safe it is....)

Lots of goof info. Waste some hours there.

I definitely spent many hours on that site before I got my bike.
