Well I am thinking of removing my front brake rotor and caliper so was wondering if a larger rear was ever available.

not a good idea. if your using your brakes right, you could take the rear caliper off and barely miss it. please don't take the front off. that is very bad idea

This would be for a land speed racing bike.... for some reason they will allow you to not run front brakes up to a certain speed.... you have 1 mile to get up to speed and another mile to slow down which is not a problem to do with just the rear brake.

Sorry I should have specified what the bikes purpose was..... NOT a street bike.

Got the adapter. Didn't know you were going to include the nuts and bolts necessary as well. Nice bonus! Probably no chance this weekend, so I'll look into the isntall next week. Thanks!

Got the caliper installed on my Ninja 300. Bracket and screws worked great. From what I can tell there doesn't appears to be any concerns with brake line binding. I've got Woodcraft Clip-Ons and Galfer Stainless Brake Lines so that's a bit different than stock.

Will do a test ride tomorrow. Didn't get a chance to ride on it after I finished the installation, but everything looks good so far. I bled and bled and bled and the lever feels firm. Doing the zip-tie trick overnight to help it even more.

Test ride went great. New pads so obviously I need to spend some time breaking them in, but can already tell it stops very quickly. I even decided to hit up a local canyon(not the smartest idea on new pads) and it worked fine there as well.

@Bigballsofpaint So I tried to mount it with a galfer front rotor and I ran into major clearance issues. The nut holding the adapter on is getting stuck on the rotor's rivets. Is that something you took into account?

Its is not, the stock rotor doesnt have those rivet in them, can you take a guess how much it is rubbing by? I know standard nuts are a little thinner, i have some at home i can measure to check to the different. The nylons are a bit thicker, so hopefully just a swap for the nuts could do it.

It's enough to completely stop the wheel when rotating by hand. I'll just grind down what I have to make it work.

Ya that works if you access to a grinder, im just wondering if the bolt length is also too long (which could be fixed by adding a washer most likely). I found thinner nuts to use online, since your using a lock washer it should be fine

I didn't like the idea of using nuts to hold my adapter on and i had little clearance as well with the rotor i used.

I took the mounting plate off of the stock brake caliper, and cut a few corners off it to make sure it did not hit the caliper ect... and the bolts just thread into it. I also trimmed a few mm off the bolts as well.

I like this better than nuts as this plate has the holes in it for both bolts and there is no way for the plate to spin loose like a nut could. Sure the bolts can still spin but it does take one thing out of the equation.

You have everything you need to do this if you took off the front caliper, but i guess you have to decide how much it is worth to you as the plate will be unusable after you trim it ect...

I'm sure you could get another one off ebay cheap if ever need be.

hope this helps

Just in case you didnt end up grinding it, lowes sells hex nuts and nylon lock nuts which is what i included. The regular hex nuts are .060 thinner, which i think would give you the clearance you need. I just measured them now, since i also included lock washers there shouldnt be an issue using regular hex nuts.

Haven't finished working on it because my back has been hurting and doesn't like me squatting next to my bike. Also my bike may have other issues beyond just the clearance thing because I had major rubbing issues when trying to use the wave rotor with the stock caliper. Lol I should just find a way to get this bike totaled out so I can get a new one.

So if anyone followed Joe (subxero), he asked me to do an adapter to mount a 65mm brembo caliper to his stock forks. He was also using a 320mm rotor. A few others seemed interested so i figured i would run a group buy for them. I dont have a business, i use a machine at work when it has downtime or i end up having to go in on a saterday to do these. So it will be easier to have a total number and do them at once now that my program is done and proved out.

I have also purchased a right side Tokico caliper off an 02 gsxr 750. 00-02 gsxr 750 or 01-03 gsxr 600 appear to be the same 4 pot calipers, and i will also be doing a bracket for these calipers using the stock rotor as well. Price reflects a combination of the 2, work is work.

Prices will be -

Under 5 people - 50 shipped
5-9 people - 45 shipped
10+ - 40 shipped

If anyone would like this type of adapter with a different sized rotor, different caliper etc, PM me. If you can get me accurate measurements i can make one. Ill run this until the end of June and then order the material i need. For those wondering, this is 6061 T6 aluminum. THanks

Pics added - taken by myself and Joe on his bike

Current list

Brembo with 320mm rotor:
1 - subxero
1- Psych0hans

Tokico with stock rotor:

1- sharky nrk
1- dandj86
1- verboten1
1- broken neck

Hey mate,

Great post. Just wondering if you'll be doing a 2nd batch anytime soon?
I am also wondering if you can do a left caliper? Same specifications as the right(stock) one you made. Let me know!

Love your work btw.

Luke

I can send you 2 nuts that are thinner if youd like. They are .060 thinner, which i think is the same thickness.as the stock caliper so it should work. I can measure the lip on the stock caliper tonight when im home to check.

As far as making an adapter for use of a left caliper, i would need one tk get measurements from tk see if it will work. Right now though im working on the radial mount. One project at a time here...

I will make more unit if more than 5 people are interested. Its not worth ordering material and setting up otherwise.

Don't worry about it. I can just make a run to Home Depot. Only reason I haven't is because I wouldn't have been able to work on my bike anyway. Might give it a shot today though.

Perhaps you should try talking to @rojoracing53 about putting an R6/R1 (I forgot which) front end on the bike so you can have dual brakes. Working with the stock setup is probably way more trouble than it's worth.

ya if you want dual brakes you dont have many other options. I thought you just wanted to use a left style caliper on the right side since they are cheaper and eaiser to find.

Do you reckon you could make a left sided bracket for me when you have time then? I'd then be able to use dual tokico brakes.
Indonesia sells dual disc front rims and dual brakes fork for ninja 250/300 bolt on.

By the way for the tokico set up, we're using the 290mm stock rotor?

I hope you could help me out, I'm very patient.

This is the stock rotor we are using, unless the left rotor is 100% the same just mirrored, i would need somehow to verify fitment. Since your in australia, im not sure how we would do that haha.

Where would you mount the bracket? I believe they also sell a set of usd forks for the ninja. Look into those, they cost a pretty penny, but come with dual radial caliper brackets already on the forks... I think... Check out www.empiremotoshop.com

I am aware of that but the mount is for a stock ninja 300 brake caliper, to mount a tokico brake caliper requires another bracket on top of the existing mount..

Stock rotor, okay, what about an oversized one? 300-320mm? Would I be going in direction of a Brembo caliper?

And I'm almost certain it is 100% mirrored because what else can it be?
As @psych0hans has mentioned, that is fork I want to get along with a 3" front rim to run a 120/17 which also has dual disc mounts. And the fork they sell has dual brake caliper mounting capabilities and according to them it's as simple as bolting it on!

Didn't you send one bracket to someone in Australia in your first batch?

You're my only hope!

I suggest you ask for close up pics of the fork bottoms. I believe you can mount radial calipers on them directly. There should be no need for brackets. I could be wrong of course...

Hey Hans,

sorry to contradict, but @lukephua is right - for radial mount you need special brackets.

Could you just buy the bottom part of a right fork that has the mounting already on it for the right side and slap it on the left hand side then just use a bracket and do what you have to do to make it all work/line up/correct clearance ect...?

That's what I would try for the fork/mounting issue but as far as a rim to mount another rotor on the left side IDK. I have seen it done. Saw no reason to do it other than looks if it tickles your fancy so I never looked much further into it. Might be easiest to get a different wheel like rojo did that already has dual rotor capabilities

I don't think I'm a lot dumber than you thought that I think that I thought I was once.
