Got approved and likely trading my 250

Went through with it this evening. Any regrets? Heeellllllll nooooo. I love the torque and responsiveness of this bike, the vtwin is such a joy to have now. I would recommend this bike to anyone lookin to move up or get a cruiser. Its extremely comfy too.

I have an 03 shadow and I love it, it gets about 50 mpg and is super comfy to ride especially on the highway. I find myself riding it more than the ninjette.

phew thank god, i was fearful the first post would be DONT DO IT!!! lol

50mpg is great! my ninjette hasnt been getting anywhere near that for some reason. I mean it has the two bros slip on and raised needles but i get about 140-150 max before my needle is in the red, even though my needle for some reason wont touch the top line on the gauge always the second one when i fill up. i havent been brave enough to push it past 150 miles on a tank but i do fill up about 4 gallons at 150 miles on it. which is an appaluing 38 mpg...

ive been trying to sell it for 3,000 with no luck plus tarde in value for my zipcode is only at 2,020

My only complaint on the shadow is how difficult the valve adjustment is. I say if you can afford it do it. Although me personally I have no plans on getting rid of the ninja.

What do you mean how difficult it is? Other than having to remove the thermostat housing, all it is is a locknut and a small bolt. Much simpler than having to pull the camshafts and change out shims.

only about 3 weeks on CL and 2 weeks between a couple forums. i had one very broke lady ask me to take over payments (cause she has no credit), that was it, and im not about that kid of BS.

I have a pregen so the shims arent a worry for me. But it is a complete pain in the rear to get the valve covers off just to get to it. Once you get in there it is very simple though.

If you decide to get the new bike, at least try and sell the ninja yourself. Why not wait a couple more weeks so you can get another $1k. These bikes sell. Be patient.

I spent a day test riding all the Harley's at the international motorcycle show. The shadow 750 is most likely a very easy bike to ride and will feel very torquey. You'll like it.

Wheeling and dealing isnt for everyone. Sometimes the headache of waiting for that deal isn't worth it. You have the means to get what you want and you're getting it done. Cool. Your bike has a lot of miles for a ninja 250. The dealership can make ok profit off used sales. I think them offering $2300 for your bike is fair.

yea the 2300 IMO is actually good, seeing that KBB and NADA have the bike values for 2,000 for trade in and 3,050 for retail resale. so i think thats why people arent hitting on it as much plus the 14k miles.

Yeah, KBB/Nada are about useless! I'm sure the dealer gave you the same song/dance about how they were losing money to sell the bike at Nada value:-)

In all honesty, $2300 is pretty good on trade. You can list it for $3k, but chances are good you'd end up selling for ~$2500 ... and, then you've got to figure out how to flip the loan (hastle). Being negative equity on your loan, the dealer option is the cleanest, and will get you loan paperwork back in order.

FYI ... I'd shorten up your loan period by a bunch! You should never be putting yourself in a situation of oweing more than it's worth. Which sounds like what you're about to do on a Shadow?

Its on cycle trader too. I think my pics are fairly detailed, there isn't a scratch or nick on the bike period, I close up'd the back tire and what not. Had someone offer me 1k upfront and 4 500 dollar payments but I'm not about that kind of dealing.

Just a suggestion, don't go into a position of worse negative equity. It's bad enough that you are in that position right now, it gets worse when you roll that negative equity into a new loan.

What happens if you wreck the bike, even if it isn't your fault you only get the value of the bike, and you are left with a loan with no bike. I don't think they normally even offer gap insurance with a loan like that, usually it's only if you finance the value of the bike and then the bike value drops faster than the principal on the loan.

The ninja isn't a bad bike, can't you just get used to it for a while?

Still, trust me that it is a bad idea to get deep into negative equity loans. It's better to deal with something you don't like as much for a little bit so you can work your way out of debt.

Do what feels right to you, man. Life is too short to worry about little stuff like that.

I didn't want to get a loan on my first bike, but I felt I waited long enough and I wanted to ride. Don't go crazy irresponsible with the finances, but if it's less than $1K, I wouldn't sweat it.

Just make sure you really want the bike you are getting if you are going to take the negative equity, because otherwise you find yourself wanting another bike a year or so later, and have to deal with even more negative equity.

ive only had this loan and this ninja for 2 months. the interest rate is 6% new loan is the same. its only 700 dollars of neg equity but as i mentioned above im getting the bike at 5350 OTD the dealer was askin 5,299 before taxes so im not getting out that bad. Navy fed NADA'd the bike at 6,350
