what's the biggest bug to hit your helmet?

I was riding home yesterday and I see this thing come out of nowhere and smack my visor just where the lift tab is. It left a yellow stain the size of a quarter. haha. So what's the biggest bug you've ever hit? I can't imagine what the cruiser guys hit with their open face helmets. That bug would have left a good dent in my face.

Talking

I don't know what it was that hit me the other day but it sure made a noise. I suspect that it may have been an acorn.

LOL. I was just reminded that when I got off my bike the other day, I had a bee stuck in the mesh of my jacket. He was still alive, just trying to get out.

I don't know what I hit the other day but it scared the crap out of me. Sounded like someone threw a rock at my helmet. Butterflys on the other hand make no sound at impact yet spread their guts like nobodys business.

dragonflies are indestructible! I hear ya snake.

Bees suck, and somehow, they always get INSIDE the helmet or jacket, nothing like grasshoppers and such that aim for the visor.....

Note: non-alcoholic baby wipes work great for cleaning visors...

A pigeon. Its not a bug .But it Just about killed me .It did him. They say helmet laws suck . If I did not have a helmet on I would be dead.I was going through a bridge .He jumped off the edge and hit me in my head.

Eric, That is exactly how a good friend was killed 40 years ago. He was riding a BSA Lightning, went under a bridge and collided with a pigeon. In those days a Bell Magnum was the state of the art helmet. We didn't have faceshields--just goggles. That's something you should put out on this forum--Slow down under bridges--particularly railroad bridges. Pigeons like RR bridges.

It is a tie between the dragonfly I last hit and the last bumblebee. The dragonfly was VERY LOUD, and splattered the top of my helmet. So I knew it was a whopper.

Now the bumblebee had a more precise guiding system. That sucker aimed for in between the eyes and got it. My entire front field of view went blurry. I had to turn my head hard to the right and guide myself off the highway using more peripheral vision than anything else. I got off the road and had to use my water bottle to clean it off. I was thirsty too, so I couldn't drink it. That sucked...

Twice I've nailed something that left splatter over 3" across that was thick enough to fully obstruct vision through it. Once I spent a couple of miles riding with my head turned so that I could see out of the edges of my visor until I could get to an exit and clean it off.

Swarming gnat/ant storms are almost as bad; they make up in quantity what they lack in size.

Wait until you get one fly up IN your helmet. Happened to me (of all places) in Deal's Gap while in mid-corner. Not cool, but somehow, you gotta keep your cool!

Not counting the couple of different birds I have had contact with over the years...

This little beastie was encountered on the freeway at speed on I-85 outside of Greenville, SC...Took me damn near an HOUR to relearn how to breath and had a fist sized black and blue bruise for over a month. How do I know what it looked like? I had my jacket half zipped and it landed inside.

Dunno if this counts....maybe I should just keep to myself.Ah what the hell its only pride...

I grew up on a farm. I had an ATC70 three wheeler for a first bike. My dad had chicken houses that we raised broilers in, we also had yard game chickens that he raised for eggs and to sell. Everynight before they roosted he would go down and feed them at the rear of our property. One night he drove down pretty late. The chickens had already gone to roost. He was in front of me driving his truck. I passed him in the field and got in front of him on my three wheeler. Rounding the corner the chickens started flying down out of the trees to eat. Craziest thing I ever saw... probably over 75 chickens all flying out of the trees AT ME ALL AT THE SAME TIME! No helmet of course.... one hen flew right into my head/face and knocked me off my lil red honda. I guess I was around 7 or so... UNFORGETTABLE...

Off-roading, I would often smack into Golden silk spiders (also called Golden silk orb-weavers and Banana spiders). These things are gigantic with their bodies about 2-3X the size of a cigarette butt.

That picture looks to scale from my memory.

Also, their webs are gold.

LOL! Well, maybe not in THIS dimension. Maybe they have their own kind of computers. Hell, maybe when our computers "get a bug", it's a bug's way of surfing the net.
