The 'Freezeout' gear works pretty well for me. I use the one or two piece suit with socks and glove liners and then a fleece, then my outer gear. Stay nice and toasty into the 30's. Haven't ridden in the 20's with it yet, sort of scared to as the bikes jetting is marginal even in the 40's....

staying warm going to Daytona from Ohio

I'll use a BMW silk head/neck sock. Full face Nolan helmet. Synthetic layers like underarmour. Gerbing heated jacket under my First Gear Kilimingaro jacket. Gerbing heated gloves and pants. I have the Gerbing Electric socks but Merino wool socks usually does it. I can't remember a time when my feet weren't warm with wool socks.

I purchased wind deflectors from EMS and I had a Laminar Lip shield extension. That should just about cover it. Wardie

Now that I've had a little bit of seat time with my winter gear, I can make reasonable comments:

*Alpinestars GP Pro non-perf leather jacket. Surprisingly effective at retaining warmth and blocking wind, but that said I wouldn't want to ride on the Interstate with this in anything below the 40's for any distance without some serious base layering.

*AGV Sport Telluride textile pants: These are great for near freezing cold but the liners have to start coming out as it warms up outside. Totally windproof but there's little ventilation with the wind & insulation liner zipped in. Those that suffer from Swass will need something more Gore-Tex-ish to breathe. That said, they work great for me, though sometimes the knee armor can be a tiny bit tight, but not enough to be a movement hinderance.

*Cortech Latigo WP boots: Comfy, reasonable shifter/brake feel, definitely keep all the wind out, and do a good job retaining warmth. My feet don't even notice it's upper 30's out with these.

*REV'IT! Bastion GTX gloves: A bit bulky kind of like wearing a winter glove you'd use to go sledding, but there's enough palm feel to not be totally detached from the handlebars. Wind and cold are locked out amazingly well. My only complaint is the zipper aft of the wrist is kind of useless, oh well. Still a good buy.

*Shoei Qwest helmet. Dear God it fogs up like a sauna even with all the vents open! Need pin-lock ASAP!

*Under Armour 3.0 Base layer. Go buy these now, WOW they're toasty warm and awesome.

*REV'IT! winter socks [the expensive ones]. Don't waste your money, regular thin MX socks do just as well.

I recently bought a scorpion exo750 helmet.
The shield doesn't fog at all.

I just recently got a set of $4 grip warmers off ebay. I installed the clutch side OVER the rubber grip (wrapped with heat shrink), and the throttle side UNDER the grip. I've been VERY happy with them for the cost. The throttle side under the grip doesn't get as warm but it does the job. I might move it outside the grip.

On warmer days, the clutch side grip gets almost too hot and I have to loosen my grip

That and combined with the $12 handlebar mitts, I'm plenty toasty in 20 degree weather.

Post-MSF winter gear update:

The temps were 25 to 34°F and semi-windy all weekend out on the range. Not exactly Interstate travelling speeds, but extended exposure for sure.

Layers and wind-proof-ness are your friend. For some reason, the RST shield on my Shoei RF-1000 barely fogs at all; just a crack is all that was needed to keep it clear, which was tolerable for the low speeds we were going. Facing away from the wind when standing around helped too.

The only things I added from my post above was an REI windbreaker over the top of my A* jacket, and a sweater between the jacket and my baselayer. It almost makes me want to take the bike out in below-freezing weather, but IMO that's too risky for slippage on black ice for my n00b status.
