HMF slip on misalignment

i recently installed an HMF slip on and i can't seem to align the muffler and the foot peg arm for proper installation... it is off for a good inch or so and no rotating of the muffler can fix it. The one shown on their web site is for ninja 250r 2008 model and i have a 2009 but i ordered it anyway as I was told its basically the same bike.

as for now, the muffler is held by the clamp located on the header. I am worried that too much vibration might cause it to slip and fall off

hmm... looked up their instructions... kind of junk instructions, huh? no pics either.

http://hmfracing.com/files/exhausts/...general133.pdf

although, looking at the pic on their website, you don't have the bracket that goes around the muffler like the one in the pic. although... the end caps look different. is it possible you forgot to put yours on? or they forgot to give you one? http://hmfracing.com/files/exhausts/275/kninja250.jpg

i have the vector end cap, the one on their web page is the euro end cap

i have the bracket that goes around the muffler. its the one causing me problem as i can't seem to align the hole for the bolts to go in when its wrap around the muffler

if you look at the picture above, the two red lines should be parallel in order for me to wrap the thing and insert the bolt between. but theyre not. ive tried rotating the muffler and it seems that im still off like an inch or so between centers (for bolts)

your set up looks different from this guys one. it seems like he used that center pipe section. is that the same kit as yours?

http://www.newninja.com/modification...ew-(picsvids)/

i don't know. just throwing out crap at this point. i have no idea. lol. but assuming that you and he have the same kit, his is a lot higher up above the tire than yours is. i gotta say that i like the height of yours better though.

edit: gotta say though... based on his videos, that is the best sounding exhaust i heard for the 250 yet.

when you installed the system, did you loosely fit all of it on there first or just start tightening from the front to the back and now you're finding out the back is off?

have you read the DIY for the area P quiet core I installed? I know they are different, but actually, it's all mounted the same way.

it should be the same kit. the center pipe is just the heat shield but mine doesnt come with one (they must have forgotten it). I noticed it too that his is way higher than mine.

the installation was quite terrible, i have to cut between the pipe to open it up as it will not fit initially on the header no matter how i push it. nonetheless, connection between header and muffler is perfect (end pipes are flushed with each other). i assume thats how its supposed to be. but then when i try to install the clamp/holder, the bolt centers wouldnt align. i tried rotating the muffler but that didnt help. i do notice that the guy from the other site setup is higher than mine.

as for now, only the clamp between pipe and header is preventing the pipe from slipping. i made sure its damn tight so as it will not fall off in the middle of nowhere. I checked it to on every stop light to make sure it didnt move.

looks like the piece that fits over the stock header is different than the one posted on the other site review.

installation is a major PITA! thats for sure

performance wise, you wont be disappointed. im feeling like 5-7% increase in torque and power. didnt do any re-jetting or shimming yet so that may still go up. i can actually "twist" the throttle now

how are you measuring that... with a butt dyno or do they actually have a dyno chart of the results on their website?

just a thing im feeling i guess. i cant be sure about the numbers but definitely there are some improvements

by the way, im hearing some popping sounds from the exhaust whenever i release the throttle abruptly from high rpms. does that mean im running lean now? i think i should shim the needles ASAP

ill check back later, geading for work

yes, you should shim the needles for more low and midrange power. To get rid of the popping, you need to do the Kleen air delete.

I have the same slip on,what a pain in the butt to slide on.It took forever to get it on. Leave it loose till you get the clamp on.I had to muscle it a little bit.

yeah, like i was telling you, it is REALLY easy to take off the gas tank. the most complicated part, which is still easy, is taking off the carb needle covers. it is easy to strip those screws if you are not careful.

the washers... i found them at radio shack. they sell it as an assortment of 100. i think 20 of them are #4's. city mill and home depot didn't have them. i didn't check lowe's since it isn't really close to my house. since it is by you, maybe you could check there first.

oh, and they are #4. not 4 mm. big difference. if anything, they are 3 mm.

i think you are confusing #3 and #4 with 3mm and 4mm. it is confusing and it is a common error. if the whole world just switched over to inches, miles, gallons, pounds, etc, it would make everything so much easier.

we need to use the #4 washers which are basically 3mm.

Maybe that explains the big size difference in the washers. The 3mm fit perfect. The #4s he gave me were way too big.

maybe he himself got confused and when you asked for #4 washers, he gave you 4 mm washers instead? idk.

because #4 washers are the correct one.
