Yeah, any time sitting for more than 3-months at time will cause carb problems due to dried petrol. Try using some fuel-system cleaner with large dose of PEA.

I'm a firm believer of using stabilizer prior to anticipated winter storage, riding at least a few miles to assure mixture has penetrated carbs..... followed by bowl drainage.
There is also a "fake starting" procedure (while varying throttle positions) to fully clear all jets after bowl drain is done (petcock turned to OFF)
Also suggest not "warming bike up" over the winter storage season as not riding, (thus not bringing bike up to full temp) creates perfect conditions for invisible condensation damage. So once winterized, suggest to leave it be.

Coincidentally, just woke my older carbed Ducati 900SS up today from its long winter break (put away last Dec 1 )
Using the same exact storage before-after procedures described above, it lit up perfectly, running exactly as it did last year. The procedure flat out WORKS.

I am also I firm believer in preparation of winter, and/or not riding the bike for awhile.

The product pictured in the above post is what I use all the time.

As I own multiple bikes, I add some to the tank, and take it on a short ride to make sure it's in the carburetors 💯, if I don't plan on using it for a couple of weeks.

@Ghostt....good to see you here again! Owning a Gold Wing, I trust you'll use stabilizer frequently! Don't want a repeat of carb clean on that!

Owning 3 bikes, at times unpredictable as to when I'll be or not be using them, I'm constantly adding the 360 year round, even on my 2 FI bikes!

Most definitely, it's always in the Goldwing tank, if not that, then Seafoam., I do this to all bikes

Having 4 bikes myself, 3 of which are Carbie bikes

My 2¢,

No need for premium fuel, just be sure it's fresh, also add some Seafoam

Also I recommend sending them to @ducatiman.

There are countless threads of people, whom keep messing with theirs, with no luck, getting mad, and most importantly losing riding time for weeks, and sometimes months.

He has been doing all my carburetor work for many, many years. He just doesn't clean them, he restores them. He has the proper equipment, and knowledge. I have the knowledge, but not the tools to do the job right, but no need to invest a lot of money in the equipment needed to do the job right.

I never discourage others from learning how to work on their bikes, but sometimes one must realize when they are in too deep, mostly is a lack of proper tools.

Detergent levels in all fuels tend to be similar. Fuel's purpose is to combust. Higher-octane fuels tend to be more chemically stable, more difficult to ignite, making it less desirable as cleaner

What you want to use is product designed specifically to clean fuel-systems. Try some PEA-based fuel-system cleaners.

My 2¢,

I vote for Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus, I've been using it since the 80s.

Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner - 20 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00092893E...F21RTJ4QGN01GM

Hi DannoXYZ,

The Red Line SI-1 (on ebay) claims to have a dosage of "Dosage: 1 (443ml) bottle treats 100 Gallons (378.54 Litres) of petrol".

So does this bottle will treat our 5 gallon tank 20 times over or is it actually used at a stronger strength?

The way that it is slow to accelerate from idle is a sign of the idle mixture being lean. That would mean cleaning the jets (and rest of carb).

That amount is typically used to treat 10-15 gallons. I suppose it depends on usage. Treat 100-gallons as preventative treatment to keep engine clean.

Then use at higher strengths to remove clogs and build-up. In this case, i'd use 1/3rd-1/2 bottle per tank to clear out carbs.

Some analysis here: https://www.redlineoil.com/Content/f...Tech_6.20_.pdf

Well, you have, but you haven't - in a way. Techron gets reformulated almost every year to account for changes in the gas and gas additives that it encounters over the years. Same brand name - different/improved product over time. It's worked well for me as also, and we always have a bottle or two in the garage.

You sure that's not formulae in Chevron's pump petrol that gets re-forumulated depending upon season? REID vapour-pressure is adjusted for evaporation volatility depending upon season.

Bottles of Techron Concentrate and Concentrate Plus should remain same? Lemme check MSDS by year.

I'm pretty sure. They make it down the hall from my wife. She's talked to them quite a bit over the years. The additive package included in fuel is essentially Techron at a very low concentration. Sold separately in bottles, it's at a much higher concentration.
