2012 ninja 250 idling high

Just got a new ninja 250, a left over 2012 model. I Put a thousand miles on it already, during those thousand miles it has started idling at about 3k - 3,200 rpms, I did the first oil change on it, went to a kn oil filter and put in the recommended 4 stroke 10w-40 full synthetic oil in it. It now shifts smooth as butter, but is still idling at 2500 -3000 rpms. Is there an idle screw that may need adjusted on it? or is it something else. I purchased a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on it that covers everything but normal maintenance stuff. Should i take it in to the kawi dealer and have them look at it or is there something i can do by myself to remedy this? Any help will be much appreciated!

Left side near the shifter go up its a black knob

Looks like that thing, this is a pre gen but its the same look. Its on the little bracket thing that one of the hoses from the left tank goes through

Disclaimer: not sure if you have any mechanical problems or not, I am just showing you where the idle knob is. someone else might need to chime in here. @choneofakind @alex.s

Thanks Ill have to check it out, I havent really looked for the idle screw on my new one yet, I do remember using the one on my pregen though. Maybe a google search will answer my question ha.

Im just confused because it seems odd that it would need adjusted so soon, with it only having barely over a thousand miles on it.

....It's a screw you adjust to set your idle how you like it. There is no "so soon" it's just set there... Kind of like the brightness on your tv; it doesn't change, there is no "so soon", you just change it if you don't like it.

ohhh ok. Maybe the dealer just had it set a little high before they gave it to me, Ill just have to adjust it.

If it's any consolation, my buddy bought a left over '11 last summer. It did the same thing as yours with about the same mileage. All we did was turn the idle speed knob down a touch.

I'm pretty sure it was a case of the dealer cranking it up so that they knew it wouldn't die...

can you tell that I'm not fond of the dealership near me?

Thanks again haha. Yeah it seems it's just the idle screw. I have to adjust it when i get home. Hopefully it helps.

sounds like the choke is on

the choke isnt on, i only use choke to get it started when its chilly out, I dont ride with it on lol.

So I adjusted the idle screw it is idling fine but after a while of riding the rpms seem to start going up like they had been before, 70 mph in 6th gear had me at 10,500 rpms, doing 60 in 6th gear I was at 9,000.

shouldnt 70 mph in 6th gear be at about 9000 rpms?

I would just take it in....If your covered I would just make sure it's done by pro's...

And know what the problem is...Hope it don't happen to mine..

Seems high. my 60 mph is 7000rpm and 70mph is 83-8500
