your battery may well be toast if it's been a few years since it's been changed, but check to see if the battery terminals are tight before deciding that you need a new one.
I was under the impression that the alternator could put out enough juice to power the bike once it was running, so you might have another issue. |

yep, was a loose battery connection
from what i read on ninja250, its not like a car, ours puts out juice in spurts and the battery stabilizes it and our system doesnt like the spurts http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Why_you...eeds_a_battery |

that's with a dead battery or at least one that's much lower than what it's supposed to be. Batteries usually give you some indication that they are on their way out beforehand and with yours just up and quitting, it sounded like something else besides a bad battery.
glad it was something simple. |

A warning here - if anyone gets a new AGM battery for their bike, it MUST be charged up fully BEFORE FIRST USE or it's capacity will be severely reduced and will fail very early, like maybe after only a few starts of the bike. Regardless of what any battery dealer or seller tells you, that it's ready to go out of the box when you get it, it MUST BE CHARGED UP FIRST. Don't just rely on a voltage test that says 12.6V or so at rest. If you don't charge it first, you will be back at that dealer getting another one pretty quick.

I've run mine totally dead on a current-gen and had a lot of trouble with thegauges after pop-starting it. Like the tach would fly up to max at anything under 4K RPM and the bike would barely run at stoplights. Weird.
