[visordown.com] - New Brough Superior

REVIVED iconic marque Brough Superior has unveiled its first new model in 73 years.

The new Brough Superior SS100 uses a 997cc V-twin to make a claimed 100-140hp depending on ECU settings.

It doesn’t have a conventional frame, instead using a minimalist steel trellis and a tubular titanium sub-frame mounted to the engine, which acts as stressed member.

It’s got fully adjustable Öhlins suspension front and rear, with an aluminium and magnesium swing-arm, and a double-wishbone arrangement instead of telescopic forks.

The front brake uses small-diameter twin double-discs – that’s four in total – with radially-mounted four-piston calipers.

It's got a carbon fibre air box and weighs a claimed 180kg dry.

Austrian-based British businessman Mark Upham, owner of the Brough Superior marque since 2008, teamed up with exclusive French bike makers Boxer Design to create the new SS100.

The DOHC, four-valve-per-cylinder, 88° V-twin is the work of Boxer Design and engine tuning house Akira.

Upham said: “We knew it had to be a V-twin but it couldn’t be a Ducati, or a Honda or something like that. It had to be unique for the SS100.”

Brough says the new SS100, unveiled as a prototype at the international motorcycle show in Milan, will be ready to go on sale in a year, with the first deliveries in 2015. Better get saving – the price is an anticipated £50,000.

In its heyday the British marque was known as the Rolls Royce of motorcycles, with famous owners including T.E. Lawrence.
