automotive compression gauge
I have a compression gauge with a conical rubber thingie. You push down hard on the gauge, and the rubber thingie seals against the spark plug hole.
Crude, cheap, surprisingly effective. |

Got a nice gauge set from Harbor Freight $25. It's got fittings that work with an air compressor so you can use it to pressurize the cylinder to check for leaks. The 10mm adaptor needed the diameter to be ground down a bit to fit tight in the 250 head but that was easy enough.

My buddy that builds motors recommended this compession tester. I bought it a few months ago and it works just fine and the plastic case is a nice bonus. My scooter was running slow so it tested the compression and it was down to 80 psi from 115psi so I parked it to rebuild the top end and bought a ninja 250 to take its place.
