International Motorcycle Show

Anyone going or has been to the International Motorcycle Show?

I'm planning on going for the first time to the one in Sacramento, CA.

How are the lines for the test rides? Do I RSVP or is it first come first serve?

Looking forward to going, anything I should expect or keep an eye out for?

Here's the link to the event: http://www.motorcycleshows.com/

Thanks!

don't know about test ride or anything but it's a blast. We went to this past one in NY and plan to go to the next on Ft. Washington PA.

I go to the NY show to get a mid-winter bike fix. Sometimes I buy stuff. I take the opportunity to try on helmets and take notes (only place you can really do that). I always grab a fistful of Progressive bags for grocery shopping.

One year they had the World's Fastest Indian on display. Another year they had the Castrol streamliner that (hopefully) Guy Martin will ride at Bonneville.

And oh yeah... every year Yamaha puts a real MotoGP bike from the prior season on display. Where you can get as close as you like to it. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Since it's held in midtown Manhattan in the dead of winter, test rides don't happen at that show.

At least Cap'n O doesn't have to worry about catching head lice!

I used to go the the Seattle show every few years, but now it only gets as close as Portland, OR. You can meet and talk with Lee Parks at his glove booth. He doesn't wear a name tag or anything: just a regular guy.

I like Lee's gloves because the fingers are nice and long (as opposed to most motorcycle gloves, which seem to be built for short chunky oompa-loompa fingers).

I have been going to the Long Beach motorcycle show the past 2 years and it's first come first serve for demo rides. I suggest arriving around 8-9am if the bikes you want to demo are popular such as the ZX6R, ZX10R, FZ-09, FZ-07, etc... and then going to the actual show afterwards as each session is about 30 mins total if I recall correctly. Most manufacturers allow 2-3 bike demos and all you need is your M1 license and gear then you'll select the bike and time slot you want to ride and if you want to demo a few brands, plan your time accordingly. I think the only bike last year that required RSVP'ing was the HD Livewire.

Additionally, the IMS promo codes through social media leading up to the event so you will never have to pay full price for the tickets. Here's the current promo from their Instagram,

Seems like the San Mateo one is always under the threat of rain. Hopefully, Sacramento will be dry then.

I went to the one at Orlando last year had a great time. You get all sorts of free goodies. Got a nice free back pack last year. Didn't do any test rides though. Reminds me in another 2 months it will be time to go again.

I was going to go this year, haven't been in many years. A group from my office goes every year, so we started making plans for this year, only to find out that the Washington DC show has been moved 3 hours away to Washington, PA. 3 hour drive, walk around a show all day, then a 3 hour drive home is just too much for a day trip. Hotel makes it too expensive.

I wonder if any of the local motorcycle dealerships will do a bus tour?

It's a 3 hour drive to PA vs a 30 min drive to DC for me.

Forgot to post an update about the IMS. I went this past Nov. in Sacramento, first time to a bike show, and it was great! Sat on a ton of different bikes, test drove several HD's to the Cam-Am Spyder, and picked up some gear. I was told that the event was handled a lot better, more spacious, and better vendor presence than what it were in San Mateo.

The Washington PA stop was canceled.

But my parents live in Minnesota and I found some cheap flights ($208 round trip), so I'm heading to Minneapolis in a few weeks with my 2 kids that ride.

Attended the Minneapolis show on Saturday.

Had a great time, got to sit on a lot of bikes. My 16 year old daughter had a great time picking out her next bike. She seems to think she is ready to move from her Ninjette to a Victory High-Ball.

I didn't get a card or the dealers information. Just noticed the tag on the bike and thought that was getting pretty close to a regular motorcycle price once you added the tax incentives.

So we bought the Ninjette before she took her BRC. At her BRC she rode a Honda Rebel. She felt much more comfortable on the lower seat of the rebel, and we have a bunch of friends that ride cruisers. She had been pushing to sell her Ninjette and buy a Rebel until I put the lowering links on the Ninjette.

She is quite happy for now. The Victory is a long long way off. Especially since she is 16 and has to pay for her own motorcycle and insurance.

No she had not, just riding it in the BRC exercises.

That is a problem, not many places will give a 16 year old a test/demo ride.

That would be a fair statement.

She wanted a motorcycle, not specifically a sport bike.
