That came from ninja250.org where they measured it to be 2mm from mounting point to mounting point.

Quote:
Mounting specs are almost identical. The top fitting is 0.5mm less wide on the EX250J. That could easily be due to one of the fittings being out of spec, or having been slightly bent. The other spec difference is that the EX250F shock is 2.0mm less tall (from center/center of mounting holes). It's likely that the '06 EX250F shock settled while in use and that they were closer to identical when new.
To me that looks about right.

I hope the Penske works for you. I see you have the Ninjette listed as track and race. Have you changed the wheels over yet?

Pretty sure the frame caps fit. The swingarm joints they cover can be swapped pregen chrome ones can be seen on the prototype newgen in the user and service manuals.

Rexbo,
I think you can bolt the old gen motor in if you obtain the front motor mounts. The guy who bought my old gen Ninjette actually did the opposite by using a new gen motor and he mentioned that the motor mounts are different there because how they mount to the engine.
And FYI... Brian Bartlow had told me that it is critical to always fill your oil to the top of the window (above the top fill line) to help preserve the bottom end. Also I confirmed that the deeper sump pick up on the new gen bolts to the old motor too, for extra insurance against oil deprivation. If you have the engine apart, make sure you do the necessary grinding for the oil mods, which give big rewards in longevity.
Good luck!

not really THAT custom. Check out the headers Eric made:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=96567

these could be used with the oem pregen exhaust if desired.

Ah. I just remembered the thing about the engines being mounted at different angles and, thus, the exhaust ports did not align but an aluminum gasket explains it.

Yes, the headers are different in fit and performance. Check out the threads regarding Area P exhaust; the one for the old gen motor was notably different to extract the best performance from that engine.

Does anyone know if a tail swap is possible? New gen tail on a pregen frame?

Not unless you do your own welding. You would have to swap out the rear framework to do a tail swap. Besides, it would look all kinds of wrong with the old front combined with the new tail. Not sure what you would be trying to gain from it either.

I'm looking to update the look of the tail. The pregen tail is so dated looking. And theres no front that it needs to match to. Just wondering before I went thru the trouble of trying to fab one from scratch. I was looking at the parts diagrams for both, and the sub frames look pretty close...

Update the rear fender, then the front end. Until those are taken care of, I wouldn't even THINK about the tail.

I'm planning a group buy on the Airtech upper and lower fairings for the pregen, if you're interested. I also have some ideas on how to update the headlight and windscreen areas.

Thanks for the offer, but I just need the tail. Thats the only piece of plastic on the entire bike. No fairings, no fenders, no nothing. Would just like to put something a little more modern looking back there, and hopefully update the seat from the banana seat to a solo butt pad.

Then you still might want to get in: Airtech sells a solo seat cowl as well. Also, CustomSeatCreations.com sells seat covers with false cowl lines.

OK, I tried my newgen clutch lever on the pregen and it seems to fit perfectly.

The only notable difference other than the pregen lever having ugly knuckle nubs is that the pin it pivots on goes through and threads into the perch on a pregen and a loose nut on the underside with the newgen. The pin is the same size except for the threaded tip, so they fit either lever. If you lost the pregen pin and had a newgen one, it still extends out the bottom to thread the nut on because the threaded part is a smaller diameter.

look up air tech. They have a race cowl for the pre-gen. That's about your only pre-made choice. Everything after that is up to you.

I believe he charges $150 for the whole kit (front and rear). So a person could quite simply buy a kit from Jeff, buy a set of wheels and tires, then bolt them on, torque and saftey wire as needed.

The stickiest tires available for the old-gen bikes too, as simple as that!
Out of curiosity I emailed Jeff to confirm this and here is his reponse:

Hey Jon,

Attached are some pics with the 17s and also the parts that you will need; which is a new front brake bracket to offset the caliper to line up with the new gen rotor, modified rear brake bracket and torque link, and also new front wheel spacers. Other than the wheels (with rotors), that will be all that is needed, you will reuse the original stock rear wheel spacers.

If you would like me to make the kit for you, I have been asking $150 plus shipping, but I will need the parts to make the kit.
I will need your stock front caliper bracket, rear brake bracket and torque link (silver parts in pic), and two front wheel spacers (2x the one in the pic).
If you don't want to give up your stock parts, then I can get them off ebay for an additional $50. Some of the guys have been going to junkyards to get the parts for me also.

Let me know if you're interested.

Could you take pictures of the new gen clutch lever on the pregen? I emailed someone who sells both gen levers and their response was that the new ones would not fit. They do look very similar in the photos though.

Nothing is mounted yet so remind me if I don't get back to you soon!

Anyone know if a manual cam chain tensioner for the new gen will fit our pregen bikes?

Maybe I missed it. Are the handlebars interchangeable?

Nope. The height is about the same as the bars used on the 300 and J/K 250s, but the risers are different lengths because the bases sit differently with the triple. The newer bikes have a bar riser base that sits on top of the flat triples while the F bike's triple is staggered so that the bar riser base is flush with the rest of the triple. The base size and bolt spacing is different, so they won't simply sit lower when used on an F-bike.

The OEM tensioners are pretty different, so I doubt it.
