setting up a ninjette for heavy riders
I haven't found any threads pertaining to this so it wasn't for lack of searching but am wondering if there is a recommended setup for heavy riders on this great little bike
I am 275lbs and 6ft tall i find the bike to be very comfortable but am assuming with my weight i should be looking at suspension upgrades, maybe some power adders like a rejet, new exhaust, and k&n and possibly changing the sprockets to offset any strain and drag caused by the additional weight my question is what order do u think this should all happen in and are there specific parts configurations anyone can recommend Some people will say go buy a 600 or bigger and even though I am fully capable of riding one this isn't first bike my wife just got a 250 and i love it, has all the power I need I am really bad for twisting my wrist and not thinking about speeds just going to the point of getting myself in trouble. As well to me the benefits of having 2 of the same bike i.e. shared parts and knowledge between the bikes far outweighs any desire for speed I might have. And lastly the price on these things is just right i can buy one and still have cash to blow on upgrades. One more ? i found a thread on here showing a 150 sized tire on the ninjette does anyone know if this is an available kit somewhere and how it affects performance and handling thanks in advance for any response |

Hi Matt,
Isn't this bike going to be used by your wife also or are you asking about setting up a second 250R? |

power concerns can be addressed by a full aftermarket exhaust, some intake mods and a jet kit or shimming the needles with some washers. If you are good with carbs, rejetting can really wake up the bike.
if you need more, you could always regear to a smaller CS sprocket, but that would take away from the max speed of the bike. it all depends on what type of riding you will doing w/ the bike/s. as far as suspension, the rear shock has available preload settings to stiffen up the rear end and the forks can be dealt with with some preload spacers. The main gripe heavier riders have is that the front end dives when braking. the spacers should help with that. for making it fit a larger person, you can install a set of clipons and some rearsets which work to make the bike seem "larger". |

i am actually really happy with the bar position big guy with short arms lol but I have been trying to determine wether or not a rearset like the shinto ones would give me anymore length for my legs i am also looking at customizing the seat by adding additional foam to increase height and comfort

I feel the rearsets make the bike feel "bigger" but I'm 5'7" and don't know what that would mean to someone taller.
Corbin custom seat or make your own... http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/modify_3.htm |

If you are buying another Kawi 250, consider looking for a ZZR 250, Adjustable shock in the rear, better ride and a little bigger presence like the Kawi 600. Aluminium lateral frame and swing arm, larger brakes, adjustable levers etc. just better all round MC for the money.
