So I went SQUID today... and damn, it felt good.

.. but I'll never do it again.. my commute today was the definition of tempting fate.

Went riding to school (a 2 minute ride) in full-face helmet, gauntlet A* gloves, Shift kevlar jeans, SAS-Tec knee armor, ankle braces, and a T-Shirt

Yes, I know it was idiotic.. yes, I know alot can happen on a 2 minute ride.. but man, beautiful sunny day + wind blowing through your T-shirt = bliss.

Still waiting for my new A* jacket to come in via mail (don't you hate backorders?) and as good as it felt, I think I'm going to wait until the gear gets in before I hop on the bike again.

.. I know most of us are gear nazis here (and for good reason) but don't act like you've never done anything stupid

Anyone else want to air out some dirty-laundry?

The day I got new overpants with knee armor I decided not to wear them for whatever stupid reason. I went riding and no more than 1/8th of a mile from my house I crashed into a pitbull. I live down a little dirt road next to the lake. All of the homes on the street are very close to the road. The dog was tied to the front porch of the owners home. When I passed by, the dog lunged for me and when he did his rope broke. I tried to avoid him but it all happened so fast. My bike went down and I scrambled to put the bike between me and the dog. Luckily the owner was home and came out and restrained the dog. My only injury was a really sore knee (that is still bothers me a month later) and a couple of scrapes when my jeans tore. If I had worn the new pants with knee armor I think I would have come out without a scratch. Since then it's been ATGATT.

When I first got my bike I used to ride with just a T-shirt, jeans (sometimes shorts - I know real stupid), sneakers and no gloves. Please don't hate me but now I wear everything exept for riding pants. I wear jeans. Luckily I have not had any accidentsin over 20 years.

I have rode around the beach area in t-shirt , shorts, sneakers, and just gloves and helmet on. But it was slow cruise , probably could go faster on a bicycle. I didnt want to miss any of the girls in their bikini so made sure to take in all the "scenery"

Yes, me too. Didn't you read under my user name??

I am a gear freak too on my two-wheeler. I admit to being more relaxed on the Spyder and the worse I did was in Arizona and in Las Vegas I rode < 1 mile with only a t-shirt, jeans, boots, and a do-rag. No helmet, jacket, or gloves. It was cool, but never again. The least I will wear on the Spyder is a t-shirt, jeans, boots, helmet, and gloves. The least I will wear on the Ninja is my Alpinestars bionic mesh jacket, Kevlar jeans, boots, gloves, and helmet.

My friend had a honda elite 80 and was having a little get together one night way back when. Everyone was going to go to McDonalds and grab some food, but this one guy didn't have any money...so everyone said they'd chip in and buy him dinner if he rode to Mickey D's in his underwear(tighty whiteys). So, halfway there on his 1.5mi journey, he was laughing and looking at the car next to him and didn't notice the red light. He crashed, got scraped up a decent amount. Scooter got trashed. Even though he didn't make it, everyone bought him dinner anyway since they all felt bad for him.

And yes! I love riding in a t shirt. But almost never do it. When you have a cool jacket, it's nice to wear it. Mine is vented heavily and without the liner, I can get chilled on a 70 degree day. So, no excuse not to wear it really.

I'm guilty probably just about everyday. I know I'm going to catch some crap for this but the only gear I really use regularly is a helmet. To make things worse- I don't even use the helmet all the time. I live about 1 minute from the beach and evey day I ride down there to run/swim just wearing sneakers and trunks. I know I'm just begging for something bad to happen and I really do know better. When I go on rides though i usually bust out the jacket and helmet and wear jeans.

I have ridden with only my helmet and it was a nice feeling as it was a hot day. I just didn't feel safe enough. (going to the gas station and back)

I guess the times have changed. Back in the late 50`s up to the mid 70`s, the only people who wore full leathers, armor, and whatever, were the pros. I was content with my blue jeans, engineer boots, and a thin leather jacket/shirt made by Langlitz. My helmet was a Bell Magnum (high line back then), sunglasses, and driving gloves--like the ones sports car racers wore--thin leather with lots of ventilation holes. Fortunately, I never crashed, so luckily I never got a chance to field test my wardrobe. When I got the Ninja, I got a leather jacket, some Dingo square toed boots, and an HJC open faced helmet. For gloves I used a pair of full finger bicycle gloves. I was promptly told that this was definitely not appropriate for a sport bike. I have since fallen in line with Icon riding pants, a First leather jacket, gloves, and an HJC full face helmet. I still like my boots and will continue to wear them.

I always make sure that my skin is covered. I don't like the feeling of the t-shirt, I did it once, and I was paranoid as hell about crashing. If I know I'll be going no faster than 40mph the whole time I just go with jeans and A* Octanes (sometimes running shoes and a sweatshirt) But I always wear a helmet and gloves and 99% of the time my jacket.
The only time I don't have full gear is, like I said, when I know I'm going less than 40mph and it's around town. Our town is like 2 sq. miles, if that gives you an idea of how far and fast I can ride. I just get paranoid when I don't have gear, which outweighs the feeling of the wind and what not.

95% of the time I wear my gear, but there have been quite a few times with no helmet or jacket. Sometimes I'll be out and the girlfriend will call and want to be picked up, so she always gets the helmet and jacket in that case. I can deal with something happening to me, but I couldn't deal with it happening to someone else riding with me. If we are coming directly from my house we both have gear, but if im out and about and she wants me to pick her up I end up without it. It's pretty rare that it happens though.

I left my gloves in my bag today when riding home - it felt strange and bare. At the moment I am wearing denim jeans and denim jacket - with trackies and jumper underneath. Until my gear comes in ... it's expensive to get started on a bike ... As for no helmet, that's illegal in Australia and bikes must have headlights on at all times.

what's wrong with your dianese jacket Arthur? it's nice so why not rock it?

I've been guilty of riding on the freeway going 70+ with t-shirt, jean, sneakers, and helmet and gloves on more than one occasion. Yes it feels nice I have to agree but I've decided that I'll make it a rare occasion and at least add my jacket, as I'd rather sweat than bleed.

Plus my jacket's dope, get's a good amount of compliments

My commute to campus from my apartment is about a mile and all 25mph. When its warm enough to want to ride with just a t-**** (rarely), I still dont do it. I just wear jeans and a hoodie (and of course helmet and gloves), and just take off the hoodie when I park.

Any other ride than the 25mph roads here in town, I wear all my gear.

Haha, thanks but I don't have that jacket anymore.. had to return it for some stitching issues. Until my A* jacket comes in, I am jacket-less.

Years ago I wore a cotton long-sleeve dirtbike shirt when I was on the bike. Also helmet, jeans, sneakers and gloves. Fun and nice for a while, until you hit a bee doing about 80mph, then it starts to be not so fun.

I always ride in full gear ( a glove on each hand, and glasses). I guess I've been a squid for 44 years of riding. OK, sometimes I go overboard and where a jacket and helmet. Once in a while full leathers but never, NEVER, have I ridden naked, that I can remember.
