First Post-need advice...Good Deal on an '08??
I've recently put 200 miles on a friend's wifes CB360T and got the bug.
I'm taking the MSF Ridersafety Course this weekend and have been looking at old & new Ninja 250's, although I *think* I want the new gen. I looked at an '08 today, belonged to the shop owner's daughter. 2200 miles, almost perfect, but appears to have been dropped on the left side, VERY minor scuffs on the fairing, corner of the mirror, and the gear selector is slightly bent. I can only ASSume the engine was broken-in correctly. Is the lack of documentation on break-in an issue. Owner claims service has service has been done too, but who knows. I spoke with the owner at length today and he won't take less than $3000. Good deal? Or should I hold out for the color I want...green/black Special Edition!? I was quoted $3900 out the door from another dealer. Thanks in advance for relevant info/opinions. I've been lurking for a while and it seems like a great forum. |

Hi Micky, welcome to the forum! IMO, 3900 is a great price on the SE and if that's what you want and don't mind paying for it, I'd go that route. My '08 was $4183 OTD and was a great deal- got it from Hillbilly in Princeton, WV. Where in appalachia are you, we might be able to help you find a better deal somewhere

Micky.
I'm sure you'll get plenty of feedback over the next few days, but from my limited experience, $3k for a dropped bike is a bit much to ask, even if it was a minor one. Replacing those plastics isn't cheap. I'd definitely have it checked our for function, esp shifting with that bent shift lever. Add in the questionable service/break-in and I'd hold off/negotiate the price down if you want the used, but that's my The flipside about buying used for your first bike is when you drop her, you might not feel quite as bad.

I'm in North WV. About an hour south of Pittsburgh.
The plastic on the '08 is fine. Minor scuffs. I have some experience detailing my autos...so I'm sure the scuffs would buff right out. The shifter is a concern though. |

I won't spend that much on anything that I'm looking for, dropped or not. It is almost officially the 2010 model year so that bike is just about 2 years old. Some will claim it is rare since they sold out and canceled orders in 08. At one dealership you get get a brand new 09 for $3650 on ebay, but I think those auctions close in the next day or so (he had 3 of them listed). I would go $2500 if everything worked properly and it looked OK, $2800 for an 09, and I'm willing to wait for as long as I need to wait. Don't rush into anything as you will end up paying for the time saved. Yes I have odd buying rules and could drop a lot more in cash if I wanted to spend the money.

Blue book values mean nothing, they are way lower than the normal private party sale prices. The 08+ are still in high demand.

idk, sounds sketchy to me on that one Greg - friend backed into it, but damage on both sides? and claiming that the IRC tires have better grip - right... hope he survives the bigger bike

I didn't see the damage until later, that would make it a $2500 bike.
