Ninja 250 Center stand install pictures

My bike was missing the center stand so I got one off ebay for $30. All I had to buy were the two nuts that were missing. Pretty simple install except for that damn spring. I tried using my strength and will power at first and failed miserably. Searched online and found out about the penny trick. It was still a pain in the ass to get enough pennies in there but I was finally able to stretch it enough to install. No more rolling my bike around the parking lot to lube my chain!

Very easy to do from the up position with the exhaust pipes and the Uni-link removed.

I regularly disassemble it and lube the pivots at the time I service the Uni-link bearings.

will it be ok without lube or grease for a while? I sprayed some wd40 to the bolts before install but that's it. will probably take it apart again eventually.

I love that penny trick. I will use that one day. But for the center stand spring I use a tool made to replace springs on drum brakes for a car.

Ha, If I ever want to permanently re-install my center stand, I'll need to buy a new spring. I went at the spring with a dremel to get it off the bike. That thing is a PITA.

Right now I just re-install the stand temporarily for some maintenance.

I have learned in this forum that WD-40 is not a good lubricant, but that it was originally designed to repel water and prevent corrosion.

It is better than nothing, but some moly grease will protect your investment a lot better.

I seem to recall getting it on and off easily enough, though I can't recall what I did to do it.

The most recent one I bought has TWO springs (intertwined) on the side-stand! It moves really slowly because of that. Not sure what the previous owner was thinking.

I use a big Phillips screwdriver to install center stand springs. On a scooter I can do it by myself but on 250s and up I have a buddy help out and hold the bike up while I loop one end of the spring to the stand itself and use a long screwdriver through the other loop on the spring and get the tip of the screwdriver to reach the post on the bike and just use a little muscle to stretch and slide the spring onto the post.

Thats what I do. Its nice not having it there and its easy to install/uninstall when needed.
