engine swap question
Hey guys, I remember this was talked about somewhere quickly before but I can't find it.
I was wondering if anyone knew if you could do a direct drop in of a ninja 500 motor on the new gen 250's? It would give me something to do next summer if I can... |

Don't ask me, I'm committed to my little 25 horsies.
You can stand it up stock! Not trying to be rude or anything because it would be cool to have a ninja 500R, but probably more troubs that it's worth. |

I'm very happy with my 250 as it is, I'm thinking of getting another strictly for track use though, and thought a little extra hp would scare the crap out of those 600's even more lol. I already pass them on every corner...stupid straights is where they pass me again though.

Eh, just throw a few bucks on some upgrades, grin and bear it.
You already know you'd be faster on a faster bike. Sounds like they know too. |

I heard these bad boys add 40+ HP.
I don't even have all the ones I want yet.. I bet when I install them though It'll pull to the red line. |

It would be a great upgrade - I too remember reading about a 500 swap on a forum, but I can't find it either.

Be the first and try it. The best thing that can happen is that you will succeed and the worst is that you won't. (I won't mention the other worst thing)

It just wont work . Go on eBay and look at the frames. The 250 has frame over the engine. The 500 frame goes around the engine. also the cylinders sits at such a different angle that is would require you to build a new frame.
If you did build a new frame then you would want better brakes and shocks . So what happen to the 250? |

I think it would be easier to fit the 250r fairings to the 500r than to swap engines. You should totally try the swap though, I want somebody to do it sooo bad.

Please do a search of this topic as this question has been answered a bunch of times. What I recall from Alex's thorough answer to the question is that it is absolutely not practical because everything on the bike is designed to handle about 30 horsepower, and things start to go seriously wrong as you approach 40 horsepower.
If you want a more powerful bike, get a more powerful bike so everything on the bike is designed to handle that power (frame, clutch, brakes, etc. etc.). These things are designed to work together. Edit: Just read your post again. Well, as you recall, this has been answered in previous threads. I'd try different search criteria. You'll find the old threads. |

I am thinking about putting a big V8 in a smart car. Not sure if I should go with nitrous, turbo, or supercharger though. Maybe nitrous and turbo.
In high school a guy put a big V8 in a gremlin. Thing hauled. However he did nothing to strenghten the supporting unibody. After many wheelies, one apparant problem - he couldn't open the doors anymore. |

I would love to get my hands on a mid 80's interceptor 500. Looked down on them when I was in my 20s. I used to have this mindset that a roadbike can't be smaller or slower than my mx bike, which at the time was a CR500. A magazine did drag race between the CR500 (mx bike) and Interceptor 500 on a drag strip, which the CR won. Immediately we all dismissed the Int 500- - ah to be young and stupid!
