I'm sure that everyone knows to always watch your mirrors at Red Lights (intersections,not whore houses). Bad things can happen if you don't.

It made me cringe to read the story.
I always look in my mirrors while at a stop light and I flash my brake lights if I see a car aproaching. I also look for an escape rout in case they don't see me.

Rather then say what I was going to say, I know 2 of the people involved, one had to be air lifted and the other died at the scene. A helmet is not going to help you much when your being run over by 15 tons. There was also an SUV that managed to duck out of the way right before the dump truck hit it. That SUV was directly behind the bikes. They had no warning, the dump truck never hit his brakes.

A truck driver should never be "fishing" for anything when they are driving in an area with traffic lights. I don't care how important that paper was but now he has all those lives on his conscious. Not to mention a possible criminal record and he's probably out of a job.

I hate the fact that there are alot of motorcyclists on the road i have to pick up my load with the rig. It's a hour full of twisties and the motorcycles aren't aware that they are a couple of rigs on this road. They tend to go over the lines when going into a turn when they are in a group.

Thankfully i'm aware that the possibility is always there and try my best to not go over the lines in this narrow road and drive under the speed limit when in a high accident risk area.

Unfortunately alot of truck drivers out there think they own the road but being a biker has opened my eyes to new dangers out there. I sure hope it never happens to me no matter what i'm driving.

Never understood why you see some motorcyclists coming right up to the rear bumper of the car stopped in front of them at a light. It leaves you absolutely no place to go if something comes up behind you at a high rate of speed that isn't going to stop. You really need to leave yourself as much room and as many avenues of escape as possible, especially at a red light.

I think that was just a little sarcasm by CC toward everyone that hates harley riders because they don't wear gear or helmets, because in this case, no amount of gear would have made a difference. CC used to be one of "those harley guys". I seriously doubt he meant to be disrespectful to with it, he just has an odd way of doing things.

Anyways, horrible accident, but in this case I don't think there was anything that have possibly been done. If a car behind them moved out of the way, then they had no way of possibly knowing. No amount of gear would have helped either unless one was lucky enough to only get knocked out of the way.

In ways, I want to hold the SUV driver partially at fault, but you can;t really blame him and I don't really know the true story. IF i was alone in the car (no kids or passengers), I would have threw the car in park, bailed and yelled for the bikes to move. It may or may no have helped, but it would have been trying and a car is a small price to pay for lives. Bailing from the car is faster then trying to move it out of a lane in time, so there was ample time to do it. However if I had family or friends in the car, there would be no choice but to try to move, and hopefully in the process, honking to get the bikes to look and react.

I can even tell you how many times I have ducked to the side because of someone that judged the distance from their car to my helmet and not my bike. I always try to stay either to the left or right side and never in the middle of the lane. Their hood usually ends up where my rear tire was just a few seconds before.

No matter if your riding for driving, the danger is those around you.

So amazingly... I am on the road for work and am at a bar at the hotel last night enjoying some relaxation. The lady next to me and i start talking about bikes, and she is a Harley rider from Phoenix. Turns out she knows a couple of those guys well, and is really upset that they died (understandably).

She also then went onto talk about her exploits of:

routinely getting loaded and goes riding
never wearing a helmet
boasting about how she has a club vest with 15+ patches for friends who have died in her Harley group in riding accidents
"Loud Pipes Save Lives!" (ahhem.. what happened in Phoenix then?... or your 15 friends?)
Claims shes only ever crashed her bike either while drunk, or not paying attention... (gee really)
And claims she laughs at people who think safety gear will do anything in a crash "I'd rather be dead than paralyzed or a vegge... that why I don’t wear anything"...

Yep the logic lesson just kept coming. Made me feel sad for the motorcycle community that these idiots are out there not only reinforcing stereotypes, but costing everyone in insurance premiums...

It's take longer for a rig to stop without a load then with a little load. If there is not much weight on top of the axle when we brake hard the tires starts hopping making us harder to stop.

The trial is in it's early stages. Driver claims he looked away for a moment and it was just an accident. At the scene he admitted to bystanders he was "fishing for papers" in the cab. If the state can't prove the meth impairment aspect of the case there's a good chance he'll walk from the manslaughter charges.

Is there actually proof these were all the kind of drunkard, gearless Harley riders? It's not just Harley riders who are like this I'm sure you all know... both my parents ride Harleys and fully gear up as well as their whole group that s mostly Harleys. Either way no matter who they were or what their beliefs were this is still horrible... if someone wants to ride w/o gear and would rather die than be saved by it then i say let em, cuz then they're doing what makes em happy even if it is idiotic. Riding drunk however is like driving drunk... no matter what its not okay I won't go on a rant lol

very sad story but not at all surprising. it wasnt till i started riding a bike that i realized how callous and unconscious people are behind the wheel. sure you see it all the time, people on the phone, guy eating breakfast or woman doing makeup while operating a vehicle. those people always appeared as a menace on the road to me.
now i see pulling out in front of my bike at low speed, trying to pass me in the same lane, racing to pass me and then slowing down once in front... the list goes on. people in cars are assholes to bikers.
the lesson i quickly learned is to fear them all. you never know what some dumbass behind the wheel is gonna do. they have no regard for other cars on the road and even less for motorcycles.
always be alert!!!

as for this incident it doesnt matter what kind of biker they were, or what gear they were or were not wearing, this is a tragedy and could have easily been avoided if the truck driver was respecting the road... and of course not under the influence of drugs!

he should get manslaughter charges regardless of whether they can prove drug use or not, his gross negligence cost 4 people their lives!

stepping on someones foot at the market is an "accident"
negligence which leads to 4 people losing their lives is MANSLAUGHTER

Um, and the combined force of TWO moving vehicles going opposite ways at the speed the truck was going would have injured the hell out of you, even in an SUV. Not sure if that would be the smartest way to tackle the problem, but hey, it sure is a sacrificial thought on your part!

Shaol1n Monk shaol1n ninja stuntman Name: Jae Location: Philly Join Date: May 2011 Motorcycle(s): 2006 Yamaha YZF R6 Anniversary "Yoshiko" 2007 Honda CBR600RR "Katsumi"(SOLD) 2010 Ninja ZX-2R "JADE" (RIP) Posts: 726	very sad story but not at all surprising. it wasnt till i started riding a bike that i realized how callous and unconscious people are behind the wheel. sure you see it all the time, people on the phone, guy eating breakfast or woman doing makeup while operating a vehicle. those people always appeared as a menace on the road to me. now i see pulling out in front of my bike at low speed, trying to pass me in the same lane, racing to pass me and then slowing down once in front... the list goes on. people in cars are assholes to bikers. the lesson i quickly learned is to fear them all. you never know what some dumbass behind the wheel is gonna do. they have no regard for other cars on the road and even less for motorcycles. always be alert!!! as for this incident it doesnt matter what kind of biker they were, or what gear they were or were not wearing, this is a tragedy and could have easily been avoided if the truck driver was respecting the road... and of course not under the influence of drugs! he should get manslaughter charges regardless of whether they can prove drug use or not, his gross negligence cost 4 people their lives! stepping on someones foot at the market is an "accident" negligence which leads to 4 people losing their lives is MANSLAUGHTER __________________________________________________ YOSHIKO 06 R6 Flushmount signals,Comp Werkes fender elim,GYTR Carbon Fiber Exhaust,Gold Shorty Levers,Shogun Frame Sliders,custom carbon fiber tank pad,white powder coated wheels,Dunlop Q2 tires
