Pirelli 250 Production Tyre guide
Pirelli support 250 Producion racing in Australia,
This guide is handed out by the Pirelli support guys at state and national race rounds, so ive scanned it. Pirelli Road Racing range 2013 ASBK 250 Production, Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 Hot pressure (off tyre warmers @80'C) - Front- 27.5-30 psi Rear- 26-29 psi *I go to the higher range on the front (30psi), and the lower on the rear (26psi), and when I use the SC1 front I go up to 31-32 psi. Usually turn up to the track with 22psi cold it reaches these pressures/temps after 40-50 mins on the warmers. (varies depending on ambient temps) After the race/session they always lose a bit as 250's cant maintain the heat, but get the warmers back on ASAP. |

They also put cold pressures in there too for those that don't run warmers,
(near on impossible to get those accurate and come up with something that works consistently, and you'll chew tyres twice as fast.) Front - 26-29 psi Rear - 25-27.5 psi Seems pretty damn high. |

I actually got to test out those Moto 3 tires a couple months ago at Chuckwalla (it was pretty damn hot too...like 110+ degrees ambient). We didn't have the spec sheet for pressures, but our conclusions were that starting at 27-28 cold and 30-31 hot front and 24-26 cold 28-31 hot felt good rear felt good.
So it's good to see that I was close to the spec sheet. So the spec sheet is a very good starting point. The Moto 3 tires kick ass, as for longevity, I'm not sure since I wasn't the first to try them. I did do some geometry testing with it and found that if you do the gixxer rear shock mod where you raise the rear ride height, if you get chattering on the front end (due to no emulators installed) you can raise the forks/decrease height showing past the top triples and settle at like 25mm. It's a bandaid for it...but ideally I would go with emulators and maybe go with a thicker weight fork oil like a 15W or 20W (for the hotter days). If you want a comparison of brands for the 250s, the Dunlop Unbeatens you run 33 hot front and rear (fresh off the warmers)

so a good non having warmer tire pressures would be 28/26 cold? I run intermediate group and have been running 27/30 cold. I guess at my pace it does not matter too much

I was watching 250/300 at Wakefield Park on the weekend Part of the Swann Insurance Australian FX Superbike Round 5 Wakefield Park NSW.
Superbike, Supersport, Formula Oz, Fx Pro Twins F1, Ninja FX300 and FX250. Interesting to see what the front runners were using (BT090, DR II's), Mid pack was mixed (DR II's, tt900gp, Sportec M5), Back were something different could not pick the tread pattern (sava??) . http://www.fxsuperbikes.com.au/ Might play around with mine on the street and see what it feels like. Thanks for the post |
