your comment in vid #2 post #25 "its worse now than it was before" ...after your repeat carb effort.
Explain? Did you alter or change something?

No. Just cleaned them really really well and put it back together. Before this a.m. cleaning I could get it to rev if I twisted the throttle slowly, now if I even breathe on the throttle it dies....yet it starts up and idles fine

hmmmm, perhaps a peek/examination of the spark plugs (CR8E?) would be revealing. Suggest to pull them/post a photo.

Is this bike "new to you"? Under your ownership, did it ever run correctly? When did the issue start?

So something went wrong with this latest carb removal, cleaning and re-install.

yeah, make sure you're not using Champion or fake NGK plugs.

That is odd. It seems, to me, from your videos, that you are not getting any fuel except from the idle circuit - like the slides are not lifting when you open the throttle.

What does it do if you try to rev it with the "choke" on?

Are the plugs wet?

What happens if you try to rev it without an air filter?

Can you see if the slides are lifting when you open the throttle, before it dies?

I'm not very familiar with the hose routing, but it could be that it's not correct.

The collars/needle jets are in-place and are visible at the bottom of the venturi when looking through the carb with the slides lifted - correct?

I would check to make sure the needles are in their proper L/R position.

I'm wondering whether the needles are installed above the spring retainers? Rather than below?

Does it seem like it's getting too much fuel, or not enough, to you?

not 100% sure, thats why i specifically asked him for a photo of the spark plugs, would confirm either rich or lean.

Could be a fuel level/float valve issue as well. Having carbs in hand for testing and confirmation of correct assembly...well, i'm here, not there.

Carb "overflow hose" (in pic which @danno had posted) is actually a vent hose.....suggest OP confirm its not blocked, plugged or kinked as it will not allow carbs to receive fuel.

It sounded like it wasn't getting fuel to me (as he opened the throttle), but he did say the plugs were wet at one point, so that suggests the opposite.

just dealt with a jet-kitted 500 with hogged out pilot jets, shimmed needles, giant mains....wouldn't accept throttle without dying, hard start. Switch back to stock jetting...instantly perfecto.

After cleaning the carbs, now the plugs are dry, but were wet previously. Floats have been set to 17mm above the carb body. Needles are installed correctly, under the spring retainers. Checked diaphrams for any rips. Vent hose on R carb is clear, the small one is going to the vent barb, and the larger one to the bib on the upper left side of the right carb. Both those hoses go back the the enrichener. The third nipple on enrichener is connected to hose the goes to nipple above R carb venturi by intake.

on an '09, the (only 1) vent hose is attached to the upper (vent) rail located directly between the carbs, which should be sticking upwards and clear to breathe freely.

Clearly, you are confusing vac hoses with the vent hose. I thought you said you knew carbs in & out?

Um I never said I knew carbs in and out. I wouldnt be on the forum asking questions for help. I said I've worked on bikes before. In fact I think one of my videos I asked how the hoses are supposed to go. Maybe you didn't watch that one I really appreciate you taking the time to help me but you don't need to be rude in your responses [/B]

And the vent hose is attached where is is supposed to go. My post said the hose from the small barb on middle left side of right carb is going to enrichener as is the bigger hose that attaches to the bib coming out of the upper left side of right carb body

On mine, the vent hose is connected to the plastic catch tray barb that connects to bottom of the fuel level sender, which seems odd to me so maybe that's wrong??

Incorrect, misidentifying those 2 hoses between carbs as the vent hose. Reread my earlier post on location of vent hose. Should be free and clear, not plugged in or mounted anywhere

pull the vent hose from where it is plugged in, allow it to freely breathe, no kinks anywhere. Give that a try.

taken from an older post by @danno

2. Vent line from tank should run behind carbs and dump around rear shock
3. Vent line between carbs at rear should also dump to back near rear shock

I'm tapping out guys. As I've said before I think there is something else happening beyond that carbs. Huge thanks to everyone that has taken the time to try and help. It sucks because it's a low mile, green special edition and is very straight . Putting is back together and will sell it as is, and let any buyer know the issues I have with it. Don't want anyone to buy it not knowing what they are getting.

Thanks again.

Hey thanks for reviving bike to where it is now! These are such fun bikes, I just hate to see them tossed aside or scrapped with just minor issues.

We haven't examined all possibilities yet. Please send buyer to this thread and we'll get bike running for them!

Take care.

I can't think of anything except the carbs, or fuel delivery problems, that would cause the issues you are having.

Something isn't right with the carbs. If the plugs are now dry, it suggests (to me) that fuel isn't making it up from the float bowl to the venturi.

Did you try any of the tests I suggested, to see how it reacts?

What do you guys think about these? The company is local and I could risk the $129....the intake is is 26mm and looks like the air filter side is 49mm OD.....I figured if they fit and bike still has issues we could completly rule out carb issue....

?

Is this a carb set of some sort? For that kind of money I'd rather send my stock carbs to Ducatiman and let him restore them to new condition. He's a pro and has helped many of us here.

I agree, he has been very helpful...and I'm greatful but for 129 no tax and no shipping seems like a no brainer. As you have seen from my posts they have been off 3x and super clean now as per his instructions so I'm thinking it's a flaw or item in the carbs.

I figure I'll eat up at least $50 to have mine boxed and sent to him and back. They even have a return policy if these don't work...

I see the link now. Those new carbs are going to be a nightmare to adapt to a Ninja 250, and then you'll have to start the jetting process... another nightmare. Then they'll limit performance due to the smaller size. I repeat my recommendation to send yours to Gordon.

Also unless those carbs are brand-new from authorised Kawasaki dealer, you'd have no guarantee that they are factory-fresh clean. Thus if bike doesn't run any better, you still won't have 100% confirmation that original carbs are or are not at fault.

Having used ducatiman's service numerous times, I can guarantee you carbs will be factory-fresh clean when you get them back. Bike will run like brand-new off showroom floor.

good point. I buttoned everything back up and the thought of diving back into it and pulling them out again isn't pleasant but i hate for them to beat me. I'm going to PM the Duc man now...

If you have carb issues, and I think you do, sending them to ducatiman will solve your problems.

Just wondering did lose the Main Jet Holder Collar or install wrong side up?.
As one ends is convex and other end concave make sure when you drop the collar in hole that concave in goes in first that way convex end match the Main Jet Holder.

They are in Gordon's hands now and he found that the needle jets were wrong amoung other things. Clearly they were in the hands of a carb hack before I got this bike. No wonder now why I was having such trouble with them.

Immediately found totally incorrect, mismatched needle jets installed from an entirely different, unknown carb set. Notice placement of stopper ring?

Pic 1 "found" needle jet on left, on right a stock OEM '06 for comparison.

Pic 2 note extreme height of n jets. I believe stock needles were actually jamming, impeding throttle slides from raising. Also affecting total height of emulsion tube.....wrong parts with multiple negative effects resulting in OP's issues.

Awaiting delivery of correct n jets, I predict all will be back to normal when done.
