Actually, I can't really ride anyway until I get a new chain and sprocket set on my bike--should arrive any day now...

1900 miles in 16 hrs is 118 mph. Over 24 hrs it's still 79 mph, which is almost impossible to maintain for 24 hrs straight. Is it really 1900?

824 miles, several times, times vary from 12-13 hours. Foam grips, Corbin saddle, padded tank bag to lay on, sprocket change to lower RPM.

757 miles. 13 hours and 3 minutes. On my return trip from Athens, GA.

That was because I hit traffic in Baltimore. The way down was only 12 hours 47 minutes.

Stock bike. I just had a Crampbuster I picked up beforehand.

I'm hoping to do an Iron Butt soon.

1000 miles in 24 hours (IBA Saddle Sore 1000) is easily do-able, even on a 250 Ninja. 1500 in 24 is a little tougher (IBA Bun Burner Gold). He probably meant going a 1000 miles.

Rode from Northern Delaware to South Western Maryland to see some family and a friend from Ninjette.org. It took me 3 hours riding down and 4 hours riding back because of weather on the way back. Rode about 300 miles. Bobby didn't have his lic yet so we just stared at our bikes for a bit... LOL Was good riding experience though. Talked about Gear and what not, then went to see brothers and sisters, new neices and nephews. the ride back was terrible with wind and rain and the chesapeake bay bridge.

What is the longest you have ridden at highway speeds?

Miles or hours will do. Highway speeds mean 55 mph and up and non stop

Engines with proper lubrication and cooling can work for days (metal parts never touch each other); that is what big ship engines do.

Hence, you need to keep an eye on the temperature gauge or light and on the oil level visor (if the oil light goes on, it maybe too late).

At high rpm's, some Ninjette engines use some oil, so taking some oil with you and checking the level after a couple of hours may prevent huge damage.

Taking extra coolant may be extreme, but do it if you have space.

You secondary chain will need some tender care during the trip, specially if riding in adverse weather conditions.

Also take a tire patching-plugging kit, air pump and something to clean your visor with.

Good advise, will probably change oil too before going. Don't know why a two hour ride is giving me such anxiety.

The excitement is normal.

130 miles on I-10 can be really boring going through non-populated areas.

Stop as many times as you feel tired or sleepy and take a 10-minute walking or jogging break.

Stay hydrated, wind can dry your body up.

Three years ago I did a 2400 mile tour over the course of a week (CT to Indianapolis to West Virginia to Baltimore to Cape Cod and back to CT).

The bike will deal with it just fine. You, however, will wear out if you don't stop regularly to stretch your legs.

I had a simple rule: Stop once an hour and get off the bike, even if it's just for a minute to walk around. I also would have a leisurely lunch (meaning actually sit down, not just grab-and-go) and set a distance limit each day of 400 miles, give or take.

End result: I didn't burn myself out and had a great time.

It's easy to overdo this stuff and get too goal-oriented. Enjoy the ride... the destination will appear when it's ready to.

Consider your true priority. Are you trying to get somewhere ASAP or are you out to enjoy the trip? Driving yourself to achieve the first means you're going to sacrifice at least some of the second.

If the purpose of the trip is to get there, frankly I'd probably drive. You can cover a lot more ground in less time that way, because it's not as physically demanding. Or I'd fly to maximize my time at the destination.

If the purpose of the trip is to have fun along the way, the bike wins hands down.

Is there a non-interstate route available? I virtually NEVER take the interstate, just because it's so boring. Unless I'm super pressed for time, I would rather ride 3-4 hours on minimally interesting roads than 2 hours in a straight line at 70mph.

+1 on the tire plug kit. I haven't had to use it yet (knock on wood), but it goes in the tail pack anytime I'm traveling very far at all.

Good luck and have fun!

Edit: Oh, to answer your question, I used to 'commute' on my pregen from SC to DC fairly regularly. I-95 for 500 miles, yuck. I would often break it into two days, just because it is SO boring, and 7-85mph is SO exhausting if you're not used to it. I would get off my bike, crawl into bed and sleep for 3 hours before I could do anything else!

Do not let your gas tank drop below 1/4. I put 11,000 miles on my 250 at 120 miles a day and it only left me on the side of the road twice. Once about a mile from home when my carbs froze. and once after 50 miles and 10 miles from home I got some kind of vapor lock when I had a bit less then a gallon of gas left in the tank. Time fixed both issues.

that has nothing to do with the amount of fuel. its about temp.

To the op you wont need anything, change oil full it up check fluids and go.

your ass is gonna get sore before your bike will have issues.

This. Superslabs suck. Local roads are WAY more interesting, even if they do delay you.

I did my tour a couple of months after buying the bike, pretty much on the spur of the moment. I wanted to go to the USAF museum in Dayton and the MotoGP race in Indy, but after that there was no agenda.

So I got maps of the eastern US and looked for the squiggliest lines that were anywhere remotely near the line from Indy to CT. They were in West Virginia, so that's where I went.

I was not disappointed.

5 Hours at 70+. You want to stop but you know stopping will just make the trip longer and the pain will only go away for a little bit. "your arse" as someone else said.

Over 45 hours straight from September 15th, 2011 (San Diego) to September 17th, 2011 (Atlanta). I was moving.

I delayed leaving San Diego for as long as possible that day because it was my birthday and a few people wanted to surprise me. I calculated when I could leave and still arrive in Atlanta in time to pick up my pet dog (coming by plane). I actually *promised* my sister that I would be there so the dog wouldn't have to get picked up by strangers he didn't know after something as stressful as being taken from his family and flying alone.

OK, I actually tried to stop because I thought I had enough time. I even paid for a motel expecting to sleep for 3 hours but then I realized that the plane ticket for my dog showed a Pacific departure time and an Eastern arrival time, so I lost exactly three hours and needed to leave right away. I ended up just using the bathroom, freshening up (not a full shower), and changing clothes. Nothing I couldn't have done while getting gas at one of those truck stops with the same amenities except that I spent way too much for the privilege (~$36).

With absolutely no sleep, I was literally seeing spots and had to babble and hum to myself to stay awake.

Do I win the thread?

Houston is crazy traffic wise. Half the time i am scared to drive a car out there, let alone a bike.
