I used to do a bit of off road desert racing when I lived in Australia. At one of our big races someone strung some barbed wire across the track about neck high. Thankfully it was discovered before the racers came through.

If you string something like that up you are attempting to murder someone, if someone dies from an act like that it should be considered premeditated murder.

This seems to be a too common occurs nice on mtb trails as well. Typically mountain bikes will build and maintain trail systems but the hikers who share the trails fee they own the trails. Every so often you'll get but bag hikers who set bicycle booby traps out on the trails. Mostly things like broken glass or tacs but something barbed wire and what not.

It's funny that some people have this negative view of riders but at the end of the days it's always riders that get hurt the most. Be it by left turners not paying attention, road rage, overly aggressive cops, booby traps, theft, vandalism, debris left on roads, and a thousand other things.

ahhh!! What is wrong with people? That would definitely be premeditated murder!
I want to know what kind of jacket she was wearing that it cut through the jacket. Was it a regular one or a motorcycle jacket?
Gotta wear full body armor to go riding now... scary. My neck feels so vulnerable right now

Had a similar case locally on a dirt bike trail up in the mountains, luckily no one got hurt.

Yikes.

Yeah, we've had occasional problems with such things on the mountain bike trails. I don't quite know what gets into some people....

I do blame the thing that would do this.

I have seen traps set in the woods for mountain bikers. If I ever cought someone setting a trap. The next person to see them would be an old man fishing.

*UPDATE*:
There was no intent to injure!
A boater reported to the RCMP (our Police) that he had towed his boat through that area at that time. His 9' fishing rods were upright in their holders instead of stowed flat on the deck and a line & lure snagged on a tree branch which unspooled the entire reel and resulted in a line draped from the branch to the road surface. The line was not strung across the road as one first envisions and as first reported.

Sorry about that! But it was obvious the story as first reported was wrong: we're Canadians! We don't do that, eh! Note that we fess up when we *uck up too!

That's great to hear. It would be nice if the news site would post an update to the story, so anyone still getting linked there gets the truth.

Unfortunately, there are reports of people doing this sort of thing elsewhere.

But I'm sad it's still being done purposely elsewhere

We do have a world famous mountain bike area called "The Shore" or "North Shore". There have been several instances of trail sabotage including a 70 year old hiker that was caught on video & charged. At least her actions were pretty minor: throwing limbs etc onto the trails built by mountain bikers.

It really boils down to respect: courtesy to others encountered on the trails & road. Bombing down a trail and blasting past hikers, some with young children and giving attitude earns no friends. As usual; it's a minority that give the majority the bad rep. Same with loud pipes and getting in people's faces does nothing to encourage good relations and public support.

Not much consolation if a person gets caught by the line strung out, but at least there was no intent.

Thanks for the update!

Just read an article about a toddler getting cut by glass while going down a tube slide.
Someone had stuck pieces of glass into the slide on purpose.
Reminded me of this.
People are so cruel

With the way the world goes some places nothing surprises me more than folks that don't know to look before they leap, especially those who choose to not look before allowing toddlers to leap... These stories have been around long enough for parents to have enough sense to inspect play areas, Halloween candy, and their local church amongst other things for danger and instructing kids to do the same.

News flash... Nobody is going to look after you better than you will, take responsibility for yourself

This viewpoint on self responsibility is what will make America great again. (IDK about this trump guy though)

You can also drive yourself more than a little crazy checking every-dang-thing. I wouldn't have thought a kids' slide would have glass stuck in it.... seriously. That's messed up.
