does anyone race the 250 anymore?

I have been sitting on a 250 for a couple of years now that I bought for my niece and nephew, but they lost interest in learning so I have decided that I will just ride it myself.
I have plenty of other bikes but think I am at point that I want to simplify and have always liked "going fast on a slow bike rather than going slow on a fast bike"so that leads to the question of is there any one that actually races the 250's anymore?
I spoke to an old acquaintance who was huge into the 250s last we spoke (he and his son have both been ccs champs I believe) and he said that they are pretty much dead now with the 300 and 400s out. he will occasionally see a 250 with a 300 engine swapped in but other than that nothing.
I haven't been on a track in many years but my kids are just hitting the age where thy could apply for a license and I wouldn't mind turning this into a super cheap dual use machine (street/track, doing a family team challenge sounds like soooo much fun) but don't want to be a complete rolling chicane.

Hi Michael,

Around my parts, the 250 race scene has died down quite a bit from where it was 2yrs ago. 300cc and up bikes have now replaced the mostly 250 grids. Some of the biggest lightweight grids at the club level was with MCRA. Back in 2015-2016 they had the "Little Big Show." A very nice grid of 20+ 250s/300s/390s. Pretty fun racing if you ask me. I would assume that you would need a 390 or 400 to be in the top 10 now as they have plenty of skilled riders racing in that class (Ultralight GT).

Have a read here http://midwestcaferacing.com/racing/ and check their forum for current rules and where you might fit in the pack with a 250. I haven't raced with them since 2015 but do remember they were a great bunch of folks.

Let us know how it goes and happy riding!

Imho... Dont spend a dime on track prepping a ninja 250. The race prepped 300s are gettin real cheap while everyone now is getting a 400.

Myself and Bruce B are about the only ones left racing 250's in the chigago area.

I'm still racing 250, only two classes left. But I run it in higher classes as well.
