Unhappy Ninja 250 Exhaust System Question

Hello, I recently just purchased my first motorcycle. I decided to start off with the ninja 250 2008. I have been riding for about a month now and I am quickly learning a lot! I purchased a green ninja 250 with 10,800 miles on it, not a single scratch, looked like it came from the factory for 2,000 USD. I thought this was a good deal.

The only thing that wasn't brand new was the exhaust. The owner had removed a past attempt at a custom dual exhaust. In replace of this the owner had put in a modified version of the standard exhaust system. Here is a pic:

(Behind the right cowling is hidden a small exhaust can, so I mean this like isnt a open pipe rig :P)

This exhaust works perfectly however does not sound "Perfect" in my opnion. I would like to get a new exhaust.

So, Here's the main point of this thread:
I am planning on replacing my exhaust, I was wondering what would be the smartest of options?

Plan A) Purchase a entirely new exhaust SYSTEM and pay a shop to replace it.

Plan B) No clue Maybe someone knows of a better way to replace this custom exhaust system? Since the header pipe is there and is fully functional maybe there is a way to just replace the header pipe and then buy a slip on? Idk

Buy a full Area P system and put it on yourself. It's pretty easy, unbolt the old one, probably 5 bolts judging by how that looks. Bolt the new one on, 5 bolts to the bike, one bolt to attach the can to the header pipes.

Hardest part about doing it will be rejetting it, but that's not so much hard as it is time consuming and repetitive.

Do a full exhaust, install yourself, some youtube videos and patience is all you need. It's pretty basic.

Rejetting isn't quite that simple though, just do some research, worst case scenario you'll have to pay a shop to rejet for you, but you can probably do it yourself.

Hmm, A little confused on some of the process of swapping out an exhaust. Can I not just swap the exhaust systems out? What is rejetting? And what is the cost?

take the fairing off and take a picture, you may be able to purchase a slip on and save money.

I have taken the fairing off to take a look at it. The problem is that it is just to short. What would be your idea? How would I manage a slip on?

Take a picture with the fairing off.

I have a muzzy slip on and the stock header pipe had to be cut down.

If there are any custom exhaust shops around where you live I'd call em up and ask what they would charge to weld on an extension to the pipe. And then you could run a slip on.

OR

Look for a used set of headers on ebay.

Either way.....probably cheaper than buying a full aftermarket exhaust.

Asked a local shop, said you would be into more money to pay them to bend a pipe to fit than to just buy the system.

However, I looked into your other idea. I am planning on picking up OEM Ninja 250 exhaust pipes and buying a slip on. This is the cheapest and best option in my mind. thank you very much for your idea.

@Everyone
Thanks for helping with answering my question. Trying to avoid creating another thread, I snapped my clutch cable today. I purchased a replacement cable and was wondering how hard it is to replace them?

Replacing the clutch cable is not hard at all. It's just a matter of taking off your old one and routing your new one. You'l have to take off the bracket that holds the cable to the clutch cover and swap it onto your new one.

you would be surprised how easy most fixes on a motorcycle are. I installed an exhaust system on my ninja as well not too long ago.

I installed:

It rides better than ever.

I could sell it yeah, I was thinking about listing it on ebay. Since its the full system. It sounds pretty good actually. Would you like me to post a video of it running and its sound? And what are you looking at for a price?

Yeah, post a video. I'll toy with a number if it sounds decent. I mainly just like the look.

@GreatScott
Yes, Its not just an open pipe :P.
Its a smaller more streamlined exhaust system, Ill be posting a video of the sound for you in a bit. Working on replacing a clutch cable and its taking 2 + hours.
