valve adjustment shim

Where could I get a whole bunch of shims for the valve adjustment because I don't live near any big cities and I would like to have them on me when I do the valve adjustment

I used a HOT CAMS 7.48mm shim kit. It can be found at multiple on-line retailers or even ebay. Here is a link of a good company that has this kit for a decent price (bottom right hand side of the page: https://www.procycle.us/hotcams/valve_shims.htm

This kit while pricey includes every possible size you would ever need for the EX250 and many other small displacement bikes. Enough to do several valve adjustments.

This^ but note that it only come with 3 of each size so if you just happen to need all four valves with the same shim you'll have to compromise one to be on he high or low side of the range till your next adjustment.

get the hotcams refill kit not the full kit. the full kit has shims so far out of size for the 250 that you wouldn't be able to use 90% of them so its a waste of money.

don't trust me but i think you want the set closest to 2.8. double check that by looking at stock shim heights. they usually dont get more than .1 or .2 out from stock 3.0 or whatever it is

This is also true if you know the smaller range you'll be needing and I think you'll get 4-5 of each size instead of only 3. But with the full kit I've adjusted the ninja, Rmz and CRF so it's been worth it. It just depends on what you plan on doing several years down the road.

all my bikes except the hondas use the same shims in the same sizes, so the full kit was basically a waste of money for me as i had to immediately buy refills for the 2.85 and 2.9 shim sizes

I agree with all the above. When I adjusted the valves on my ninja 250 most valves needed 2.80 to 2.95 thick shims. Just having three of each size was a bummer but luckily I was able to move around some of the existing shims to get all my valves where I wanted them.

Until I opened my engine up I had no idea what range of sizes where needed so I just bought the full kit (local MC shop had it). That and they also fit my KX250F and I assumed the full kit would ensure I was covered there too.

If every one who has adjusted valves on this bike end up using shims around 2.85 thick then you can probably get away with just ordering a variety of refill kits around that size and save a lot of money. The same link I provided also sells the refill kits if you scroll down the page a little.

But if you only get the refills then you don't get the really cool orginizer box the full kit comes in

Concur with Alex. It's a two in-and-out trip deal. You'll be a better mechanic when you're done.

You will also need to know what thickness shims are in it now to know what to order, meaning the cams will need to be removed. With any luck the clearance will be in spec.

I asked my local bike shop if they could sell me a few since I did not want to wait for shipping.
