Loose vacuum line. Major backfire.

Ok guys long story short I'm helping a friend with her bike. The bike was apparently running before she put a can on it then soon after it started backfiring and popping then when i went and picked it up yesterday it would turn on and die as soon as you touched the throttle. Now I planned on pulling the carbs shimming the needles adjusting the idle air screws and deleting the kleen air system. I pulled it apart last night and this this thing has been apart a few times to say the least. It had the snorkel removed the caps for the idle air screws already drilled and one shim on each needle. Now heres the kicker. After I got the carbs out I saw this little guy just hanging there only attached the carb body not that valve on the side.

Would that vacuum leak alone cause most of the issues she was having? Also the idle screws were about 5 turns out so I'm sure that wasn't helping.

Welcome Ed! And yes.. vac leaks cause all kinds of problems with idle and applying throttle. Good luck getting it back together and sorted.

thanks csmith I'm hoping this helps the issue. Sadly its not the only issue, although mostly cosmetic theres plenty more work to be done before I deem this thing road worthy.

Well got the carbs back on last night as she runs!!! I put 3 shims on the needle(my washers measured in at .0200), got the idle air screws turned 2 1/4 turns out and plugged off the kleen air system. Here's short vid of it revving up idle was alitte high but thats taken care of to.
