leaking a little gas

noticed a distinct smell in my garage today when trying to get something out, looked at my bike and saw dampness from gas which appears to be seeping out of a rubber hose. i'm having trouble finding what this hose is connected to on all of the parts diagrams, not seeing any hose in a similar U-shape. so i took some pictures and hopefully someone can help me with a part number or at least idea on how to replace in terms of size of the hose. there is only 1 clamp on it which is on the bottom where it is actually leaking.

this is the other side of the hose and where it connects

i just filled up and have only ridden about 15 miles on my new tank, normally i leave my petcock on when i park it in my garage for the night could this be part of the problem? I park it straight up on my centerstand however and not on the sidestand if that makes a difference

that looks like the crankcase vent hose?? can't really tell from the pics. is your oil level at the proper level in the sight glass or has the bike been on it's side recently?

the hose is the same shape, however it isn't connected to a plastic piece like this

its going directly in to another black piece, no clear plastic piece like the picture above

the bike was downed by an old owner but i have had it for almost 2000 miles and it hasn't been downed since then

how's your oil level in the sight glass. Changed oil recently?

yep, that's your crankcase vent tube. what does it connect to if not that white piece?

went and looked at it again, it looks like its going to the air filter box/area on the top

my oil level is midway between half full and full but the bike is cold right now and hasn't been run since yesterday. i changed the oil about 1500 miles ago with rotella t6 synthetic but the oil isn't clear like these pictures, its kind of darker brown

are you reading the oil level with the bike perfectly vertical and on a flat surface?

okay, sounds like your oil level is correct. are you sure it's gas you're seeing and not oil?

If oil, I would take the hose off, clean up that area and check the hose for a split? if the hose looks good, pull the airfilter and check the bottom of the airbox. does it have oil in it? if so, clean it out and see if your problem continues.

when i changed the oil i also put some new oil in the air filter, maybe i put too much?

but it smells very strongly like gas and its not dark like oil. i didn't want to pull off the hose and get splashed with gas but i'll take a look at it now

not if you can see the oil level line in the sight glass.

could it be gas from the carbs that are right above it? if so, you should be able to see the carbs are "wet" from a leak. are they wet?

did you clean the filter before oiling? what did you use to clean it?

i used dish washing soap when i cleaned it. i just looked at the hose again and it was just oil, i think the gas smell is from my tank since it is full

it seems like the brass clip that holds the vent hose down however is really lose and isn't tightening good enough to seal the hose which is why there is seepage.

my carbs aren't leaking but from now on i'm going to turn the petcock to off whenever i'm not riding just in case

cool.

you can either bend that metal clip a bit tighter by taking it off and pulling it so it makes a smaller diameter circle or use a tie wrap in it's place to hold the tube onto the crankcase vent.
