How fast do you need to go? Are you actually suggesting that your 300 couldn't break the speed limit in a headwind? Please. Give us a break. I will refrain from commenting on the… um… wisdom of doing 130 on public roads. Look, I do have experience with this. Right after I bought my newgen in 2009 I did a 2500 mile tour. Consider this "getting back to you" about that experience. I was not uncomfortable. I was not unhappy with its performance. I was never unable to make a pass when I needed to and I routinely rode at or above the pace of traffic. In short, I never did figure out why people say you can't tour on this bike. It worked just fine for me. Why? Simple. I didn't expect it to be able to travel at 130 mph and I for friggin sure didn't subject myself to 13 hours in the saddle. That's ridiculous. I did 400 mile days. That was a nice target and it kept me from getting grumpy. If I wanted to get there sooner I would NOT have ridden my bike, I would have traveled by air. The point is the ride, not the destination. If you spend too much time in the saddle -- regardless of bike -- you're not having fun. You're getting tired and sore. That makes you unsafe because you're fatigued and distracted. Add to that the fact that you're willing to go 130 to get there quicker and it sounds like an accident waiting to happen to me. Just my $0.02.

I'm not here to be a jerk about this, but riding a 250 requires me to defend the small displacement market on a regular basis. I like to remind everyone that large displacement bikes weren't always the norm. A "big supersport" was a 750cc pumping out a whopping 70-ish horsepower. There were plenty of smaller bikes roaming the streets, and their pilots were tough as nails. Guys would ride these things until their hands bled. They weren't afraid to take off on a little bike and ride coast-to-coast. No heated gear, no AAA, no cellphones, just brass balls and a sense of adventure.
Fast forward to the present. Your bike is like a space shuttle compared to those old monsters. It is far more advanced than anything that was on the street during the pioneering days of motorcycling. Add to this the fact that roads and gear have greatly improved over the years, and you are all out of excuses. Now, don't get me wrong. I feel you. Motorcycles have come a long way, and that is a great thing. Bikes are now built with specific purposes in mind. Keep that in mind when bike shopping. If you want to take your bike on long trips, either buy a bike made for it, or nut up and do it the old fashioned way. |

I am shocked that a low displacement budget bike sucked at touring. WTF Kawasaki! Its not like you make a 650r that's good for moderate day trips or a ninja 1000 or a Concourse 1400.
Come on man seriously, of course its not a good bike for long trips. Its small, its cramped and its under powered. I wouldn't want to do trips like that on a SS either. Most people who buy a bike like this don't know what they are going to like the most out of riding. The 300 can do it but if you find you want to take lots of long trips your going to get a bike better suited to the task. Its not a mark against the bike its just not what its designed for. |

Just got back from a 1300 mile trip on the 300. It's not a touring bike for sure, but had a great time and it did everything it needed to. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

So I guess OP was expecting the 50cc bump in engine size to = the Ninja 250 transforming into something touring worthy? This thread is retarded.

Ok Fishdip, you rip the 300, but you say you have purchased two of them? Is this correct? What does the 250 do that the 300 cannot? Please explain. How was the 250 more comfortable on long rides?

Aside from the crappy throttle, the 300 is all around better than the 250, I still prefer my 250 though.

Yep I got 2 of them. Why you ask I wanted to get in to racing and another member (peanut) who after seeing some of his runs on the track and talking to him said the 300 is a better bike for the track and it is. Now the bigest thing the 250 is doing better then the 300 is staying togeather. I went on a ride with another 300 owner and it was sad how much the farings don't stay in place. Or how rusted my pipe got in such a short time and to top off the other fact his bike keept dieing at stop lights. It's better in every way but the stock head lights

The 250 or the 300?
Both 250s I've owned and the 300 seem to have the left side fairing pop out just a bit from the inner sort of dash fairing. Really weird that the pipe is rusting, mine is too. I sprayed some anti rusting jizz on it and I'll probably paint it all black. My 300 has stopped dieing completely whereas 2 weeks ago it died at every stop, no idea what caused that change.
