always be careful of riding a bike off the showroom, sometimes the dealer sprays wax-like stuff on the tires to make it look shinny and clean, but is pretty much unrideable

Hmm. Was it because he was turning a little bit when he accelerated? That's a no-no, right?

Yup. New tires suck lol. I had my new tire installed last week and I rode the bike up and down the drive way. When I used the back brake, the tire would just slide and lock up. I need a warm day to break them in!

I'd read somewhere that some newb at the dealership shined up the tires without realizing the consequences. don't think he gave it near enough thottle for the ass end to come out like that. apparently the dealership paid to have the bike fixed up and everything. course, you can't believe everything you read on the internet, so take it with a grain of salt.

Poor bike. Atleast the dude was suites up. If it is true about the guy shining up the tires he ougjt to sue for a replacement.

If a dealer is making tires slippery, that sounds like a major liability issue. Assuming the above is true, fixing up the dude's bike is the LEAST they could do.

I saw that video about 2 years ago, and was honestly a little scarred by it... obviously the rider was new, but the amount of turn and throttle didn't seem even close to where I would think he would be in danger....

I used to work for Honda motorcycles and have seen that happen to one of our techs on a new tire while riding a cbr600. Glad the gsxr rider was geared up.

I don't think I have ever known a dealer to let a customer/new owner ride a bike off the showroom floor. Also, I think the guy was showboating a little, trying to weave, then got scared that he was going too slow and gassed it. Fishtail; drop.

I'm not sure what you mean.... new bike bought from showroom.... you mean they usually scuff the tires first?

I should say I have never seen a customer ride a bike out of the showroom. It is always the salesman or an employee of the dealership that takes the bike outside before handing over the keys. I was told it is a liability issue for non-employees to ride in close proximity to the inventory. (Go figure) That part was a separate observation from the rest of the post.

Gotcha. It looks like he COULD have come from the service bay.

true, and you can see a puddle of water by the store. May be it had rain a day before hand and he hit water on the tire in the parking lot.

My dealer stamps the receipt of a tire purchase with a caution for 100 miles type notification on the bill. Don't remember them doing that on the paperwork for the bike purchases, but they do warn you to go easy on them for 100 miles (a bit overly cautious). Some guy a couple years back bought an R6 and tossed it in the first corner after leaving the showroom.

His tires were shined up. Look closely at the video and the centre is super glossy. I don't know if this vid is real or if it was staged because that's retarded.

The rider wasn't a noob either. That rear wheel broke way too easily. I'd be surprised if he was even fully off the clutch at the point when it broke loose.

Regardless of his level of skill, that crash really didn't look or sound like rider error. I would also lean most toward the tires having been shined up and never cleaned off before letting him take it.

“I should say I have never seen a customer ride a bike out of the showroom.”

Well when I bought my Ninja new I rode it out of the showroom, I was told more than once about new tires by the staff possibly as it was around 35 F and the snow had only just melted. However when I picked up my GSX they had kindly put 12 miles on the clock roughing up the tires just be careful with new tires.

Yeah this is also the reason you shouldn't use a spray on wax directly on your bike. If you do use it spray the rag then use it cause that stuff goes everywhere. I was also told to get the tires wore in on my new bike. They let me ride it right out of the service bay which is where they cleaned it for me and put the inspection on it when I purchased the bike. I know the guys that work there and the store is in the middle of a turn with quick traffic. They say they always watch when people pull out because they can't count the number times people have gunned it and dropped their new bikes.

I've seen tons of videos like this before, its starting to make me think that I should bring sand paper with me if I ever buy a new bike. Give the tires a good sandy rub down before I ever get on it. Think that would work?

That's actually what I do when I make a mess while changing the oil or waxing the bike... Yeah, I'm a slob, but I make sure I keep the crap offa the tires
