Cant shift into 1st gear
HI
I just bough my first bike, a 04 Gpx250. Owned it and have been riding it for about a week. The Previous owner had not changed the chain in quite a while. I ordered a new one and in the mean time i though i would give the current one a good clean and lube. I took the front sprocket cover off and gave it a good clean with some kerosene and a old paintbrush. Now no matter what i try i cannot get the bike into fist gear. It will go into second, (and then no other because of the safety) But i cannot get it to go past neutral into first. I have tried changing the angle of the shift leaver but nothing seems to help. |

Hello Mitchell, and welcome to Ninjette!
Can only change gears out of neutral when engine is running. Also make sure shift-linkages connecting to shift-rod is connected at 90-degrees |

I did not have the bike running due to cleaning the carbs. however now that its running i still cannot shift into first. I have also found out that i cannot shift into anything above 2nd, Only neutral and second. I am not quite sure what you mean about the shift linkages being at 90 degrees so i have included a picture of them.
https://ibb.co/0fZSMpS I feel like i have done really simple, Like put the linkage on backwards or something. |

I did the dumb. I had the shift linkage on backwards. Works fine now. Can you confirm that this is the right orientation.
