Ninja 250 2011 Brake light issue!

After researching for a few hours, i thought I ask someone on here, preferably an expert!!! lol

My brake lights are not getting brighter as I apply front or the rear brake.

The switch is not the problem since I already tried to loosen it up. I did read that the rear switch needs to be working properly in order the front switch to also work. I also hear a click sound when I apply the front brake, so I think it's nothing to do with the switch... right??

I'm pretty sure its the bulb.... but I want to know it for sure So I thought I ask on here...

When I pulled out the bulb, there are two filaments... One Filament is working, and the other is not. Does this second filament always light up? Or does it only light up when it's suppose to (when you apply the brake) - I guess that's my main question....

Dual filament. One stays light when the bike is on, and the other lights up when you squeeze the brake lever or step on the foot brake. If the filament is broken, than you need to replace it and your brake light will work. If it's not broken, than you need to check your connection for the front brake lever and the rear switch may need to be adjusted so it will engage the brake light.

Welcome to our site, Ragz !!!

What you did read is incorrect.

Yes, the brake filament is burnt, you need a new bulb.

I'm getting two different answers here ^^

The filament is in tact, means it's not broken. But only one is lighting up. When I apply the front or the rear brake, nothing happens.

I tried to pull onto the spring (which is just above the rear brake pedal, connected to a round cylinder looking switch) and still nothing happens.

So is it the bulb? or something else Because cuong-nutz is saying it's the connection, unless filament is broken

and Motofool you think that both filaments should be working/lighting up when the bike is turned on?

I would say it is safe to assume that Motofool believed that your filament was broken. Are you positive it's broken? Usually it may look intact but if you wiggle the bulb, you may see where the filament is broken at.

just tried to wiggle it and it seems in tact, here's the pictures if it helps... I pulled it out and brought it inside the house, in case I need to get a new one.

Yes, sorry, I did not read Cuong post, but he is correct, it could be anything else in the circuit.
The think that normally fails is the filament, but your picture shows it may be OK.
You could check it directly from the battery with one cable or using a multimeter for verifying continuity.

Try taking a look at your brake light fuse under your seat.

You need to get a volt-ohm meter (multimeter) and learn how to use it, if you ever expect to troubleshoot electrical problems. Someone could tell you the muffler bearing is wobbling in the wobbling hole and you might believe them. The entire electrical schematic is posted in the sticky area. With it and a meter, you can solve all kinds of problems.

Good Luck!!

FYI, the circuit in the bulb could be open and not visible to the naked eye, so looking at a bulb only works 98% of the time. YMMV

GOT IT!

lol so this is what I figured out:

The two filaments (which looked intact) were not functioning properly!

Used a voltmeter at the local auto dealer/shop and they told me that bulb was good, so only 1 filament was working (which was the running light/filament)

So, both filaments DO NOT GO ON until you apply brakes! The bulb number was 1157 and once installed, I applied the front brake and it worked just fine.

The rear brake did not work! and I found out the problem for that which was, the spring that's connected between the switch and the hook that's attached to the rear pedal came off? I don't know how, So I adjusted the bolt away from the brake pedal (meaning the I unscrewed the nut going upwards) , connected the spring that was loose between the switch and brake pedal and voila!!! All works

Thank you so much for the help everyone!!!

P.S. where is the thread the post if you are a newbie ? I got tons of pictures and a few mods to the bike I want to share
