I am happy doing the simple stuff, like jetting, exhaust, oil etc, but anything to do with the engine internally (not carbs) I am not confident in as yet.

1/2 - Yes
3/4 - I'd love to learn how to do the more involved stuff, plus have the tools/space to do them as well.

Going to clarify, I do get my hands dirty, and have no issue doing a full motor rebuild, but, my decision is based on time. If I have the time to do that deep an internal work, then yes, if I do not have the time, then no, I have a shop do the work, not necessarily the dealer.

1-4 yes. The only thing that scares me about this bike is the amount of time some things can take - for example the first time I removed the carbs, that was practically an all-day project.

I love this bike so naturally I'm willing to do any necessary work on the bike. The more you work on it, the more you learn about it. But...I work and go to school full time, so sometimes I will just have to pay someone to do it.

When I was younger and raced mx I did all my own work - have to or else go broke. Also what do you do on race day if bike breaks. Years later, no tools worth mentioning, no time, so ride it, check it, and bring it to the dealer if something beyond oil change needs to be done (though dealer did first one). Also used to work for the dealer so still have good connections there. In fact a buddy of mine who works there and rides a litre bike wants me and him to do the slip on, rejet, air snorkel removal, and just for looks get rid of the fender extension. I think he is more curious than I am to see how it responds to the changes!

I won't do anything intense without help from someone who has done it before.
I never use the dealership.
I never get my hands dirty (I wear gloves).

I don`t have a problem doing my own work. I certainly do my own oil and filter changes, adjust my cables. chain, etc. While the bike is under warranty. I let the dealer worry about stuff like a sloppy cush drive--am scheduled for number two tomorrow. There is no reason that I should shim a sloppy cush drive while the bike is under warranty. Guess they are stuck with me for another two years. So far I have been happy with the Kawa dealer.

3. Do you do more intense maintenance? (i.e.: Swingarm maintenance, fork removal, etc)
Sure... why not?

With the amount of documentation to be found online, I certainly would (or will)

Yup, we work on the bike

I will have the dealer do any "warranty" work but as my hubby is an aircraft mech and used to make his living in the auto and racing industry, we do all our own work. That and he dosen't trust many dealer mechanics. Pic is a little something he works on... Just a tad more power than the 250R.
