Lighting for Fender Chop.

I'm looking at doing a fender chop, but I don't know how to wire a light for the license plate.

Has anyone done this with a light or is everyone riding arround illegal?

Thanks?

the lights are very eays. should just be 2 wires (a hot and a nuteral) any light you add when you do the chop will wire the same.
If you go with LED lights there might be a little more work if the light does not come with a resistor already installed.

I don't think resistors are going to be necessary since the light is meant to be illuminated all the time. The resistors are for turn signals only.

I agree otherwise. There is a two wire harness that plugs into the stock light. Just cut it off and find the hot and ground wires then just connect whichever light you choose.

According the Ninja 250R 2009 parts catalog, the standard bulb for the license frame is part 92069A. Don's Bulbs lists this as 92069-1007, 3.4W 14V incandescent type 158 bulb. So go look for a 158 equivalent at your local parts store, or order online. If you want to go LED, my favorite site is Super Bright LEDs, who have a drop-in 158 replacement (WLED Miniature Wedge Base Bulb) in many colors. They have built-in diodes and current-limiting resistors (LEDs need a resistor not only to provide a load to flasher relays, but to keep from frying the LED).

Hope this helps!

EDIT: This assumes you're re-using parts of the fender or whatever. You could always go with a completely new frame with built-in LEDs or whatever and just mount it and hook up the two wires.

If I do just order LED Bulbs, how to I secure them. I know how to run electical. I built my own home and have worked on countless cars. I just need to know how others have done this so I am not making it up as I go along.

I did LED lighting in a round-about way. These are those crappy $15 windshield fluid lights from Pep Boys.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Are those the lights that suposidly replace the wash fluid jets on the hood? Did you just drill a hole and then Epoxy them?

I like Matt's idea a lot! (Post #7)

But in searching ' LED license plate lights,' the second hit on google was this http://www.1tail.com/sa/c/LED_Licens...ail_Lights.htm

There are also license plate covers that have LEDs in them as well. Such as: http://www.amazon.com/Illuminator-LE.../dp/B001187HQU

Finally, if you follow the link to 'other products by Radiantz Hardcore lighting' you'll find plenty of overpriced crap that I like a little too much. Good company btw; got my rear signals from them.

It sounds to me like their douchebag radar is perfectly tuned to me. "Racial profiling" is a convenience excuse for people to use when they get caught breaking the law.

"harassment" as you put it; nothing more than a police officer doing his job.

It is what it is now in this country. Change is coming alright.

racial profiling, excellent way to give reason to find any excuse or even make up one for a pull over.... cops have said that i havent signaled for a turn (which i indeed did)....also got stopped because i was serving in a lane haha(which was absolutely a lie)...and always walked away with nothing, why??
having being pulled over for a tiny necklace with a cross pendant hanging on the rearview mirror not too long ago... then insulted for still being in school at the age of 29.... yes i guess that would be considered in his job description also hahaha
living in a small town where i am clearly a minority... things happen not all cops are saints thats for sure.... been here 9 years and not a single violation.... and intend to keep it that way...

ok back to topic.... lighting is pretty easy... there is a harness for the plate light... you can find pre made led lighting for autos(which most normally run on 12v) and use them to illuminate your plate..... cut off the harness from the original plate light and crimp or solder it to the new led wires and tada.... new plate light

Nope. There are plenty of reasons to pull people over. Every car, all day long. Pulling violators over for weaving (which I bet you were doing, even if you didn't notice) and minor equipment violations is a great tool that leads to bigger issues, like suspended or uninsured drivers and major warrants. How was Timothy McVeigh caught? Look the answer up... As it may surprise you.

If you aren't getting tickets in 9 years its because you aren't suspended, you don't have warrants and your vehicle is insured. I never claimed all cops were saints. They are like every other demographic... Good and bad are mixed in.

That said, your generalization that the cops in your small town are all racial profiling, harassing pricks is what I take exception to. The first folks to cry racial profiling are. Doing so because they don't take the time to understand the system and enjoy the convenient scape goat. I've come to expect though, however sad it is.

Stay safe

hey i dont mind them doing there jobs... its just when i run into insults, bad judgement, and making up lies...... it makes me love em that much more =)

Same reason every person I stop for weaving within their lane says almost the same thing to me every single time... "I was weaving? I didn't even realize!"

You ever used a cell phone and drove at the same time? Ever? Texts or phone calls. Thank about it... be honest. Ever?

If so, then you have weaved within your lane.

I never claimed that I had you all figured out, although that doesn't seem to be the most daunting task on todays to-do list.

That's your opinion. What matters is:

A) How it was formed in the first place.
B) how you pass your OPINION off as fact.

I'm sure you and your guest had absolutely nothing to do with the police being called to your residence for an intruder. The police always walk into people's houses and menace them for no apparent reason.

I think your locale (Socialist republik of IL) has more to do with your encounters with lies, bad judgment and insults than anything else. If you feel you've been wronged by an individual officer, perhaps you should have done something about it then, like contacting his/her supervisor or filing a complaint, instead of insulting an entire profession anonymously (and ignorantly) on the internet?

All the best.

Unfortunately it probably could. The thing is, I am on the front lines. Been on the front lines for 5 years. Been shot at. Been stabbed. Seen stuff I wouldn't feel comfortable repeating here.

Just goes to show your not the only person in that town that has a problem generalizing then.

Somebody called them to your house. The police don't walk around your neighborhood trying doors. There is a huge part of your story missing, which is evidentially an intentional omission, as it would bring light to why the police where there investigating an intruder in the first place, but I digress.

You missed the idea behind my post about the weaving. The idea is, you did something to warrant a traffic contact each time you were stopped...

EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T NOTICE IT.

That's your problem then. Your only true recourse if you feel you were wronged during a police contact is to report it to their administration. You are not going to become a target. Not a target for enforcement, not a target for anything. We (the police) don't work that way. The repercussions for us would be far greater than what it would be worth to "harass" you.

You don't have to worry about offending me. What you should worry about is how you represent yourself. What other careers/professions/groups to you generalize about? How do you think it makes them feel?

I doubt your sorry since right before you apologized, you said..

If we're all such a joke, then call 4-1-1 during your next emergency and ask for a direct number to the firemen. See if they'll help you with your theft report, your barking dog complaint, your ex-girlfriend sending you harassing text messages, some drunk weaving down the highway, et al.

This thread has gotten a little off topic. Maybe Alex can split this into a new thread in off-topic.

There is however, absolutely nothing I feel the need to take to PMs. If you have a problem airing your thoughts on the subject, you never should have done so in the first place.

They are actually threaded with a nut, so I just drilled a hole and screwed the nut on. All in all, it was a pretty easy job. I've been followed by a couple cops at nite and had no problems, as far as the lights are concerned.

What? Is this frickin english class now. Some people need to learn to keep certain opinions to themself. This is supposed to be a friendly environment/forum. Its why I use this ninjette forum specifically. Sure we get into some heated discussions around here!! But personal, off topic attacks like that shouldnt be tolerated.....

I'm for the periods.
While we do use smilies and acronyms up the arse on the net. Using periods like that is.....well..um.....hmmmm......understanding!. . because it can be another tool used to convey mood, tone or ones own manners while speaking. Smiles and acronyms are not in the english dictionary either.
If Tony feels he has to use periods to express himself properly in a forum environment...... He should.

Tony, I understand what you were sayin about the cops being pricks. A softer way to say that for the LEOs around here would be "Picky".

On the other hand....It doesnt look like your plate would be legible from the distance required in my area which is 30ft. I have two plate lights on mine like NJD022588's pic, and they barely makes the cut.

I used two windshield washer sprayer LED lights that you see people putting on their tuner cars. this worked out great because of the location of my plate.

simply wired them right to where the stock ones went

I bought my lights for my car from them. I changed out all 19 bulbs in the instrument panel to blue led.
Cheap plus a flat $5 shipping.
