Wire wheels
Has anyone done wire wheels on their pregen?
Specifically I'm thinking a 17" rim on a dual disk front hub and a disk rear hub with 17" rim. Maybe a bit wider on front and rear. |

Haven't seen 'em yet, but now that you mention it I'd be curious to see how they look.

There was a picture floating around a while back of a pregen modded up in scrambler trip with wire spoke wheels. Remember what I'm talking about?
That said, check out Warp 9 and their sumo wheels for dual sports. They typically come in whatever color you want, 17" diameter, and as wide as you want, usually with as large of a brake rotor as you can stuff in it if that's what gets you excited. If I were going to try and put spoked wheels on, that's the route I would take. Find a dual sport, fit those wheels to the ninjette, then swap out for sumo conversion wheels. Would look neat! EDIT: found the post I was thinking about. Not sure what came of the OP's bike, if he ever actually did this or just asked about it... https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...4&postcount=32 |

Wire wheels are cool looking, but are a PITA. Gotta run innertubes, so you can't plug a hole in the tire and continue your ride; need truing now and then; more work to keep clean.
But, oh, they look good! |

Do they make rim strips for those like they do for single wall bicycle rims or are the tubes extra thick in that area where the tube makes contact with the inside of the nipples?

I guess I'll need to measure my hubs to see how wide they are and go from there. Rims should be easy to find and spokes can be found/made.
Now that I think of it I may end up going with a different set of forks so it may not even be an issue. I'm not really worried about how much maintenance or whatever it will be. It's a custom bike. I've got several others to ride if I want something reliable. They do look good though. Seems like a great way to retro-fy the pregen. I'm also assuming the wheels would weigh less but I could be wrong. I suppose it was a shot in the dark to see if I could copy someone's work instead of doing my own research. |

I think it was the KLR650 rims that could be adapted to the EX250's, but don't quote me on that... They are Kawasaki, and they are wire wheels, you could have a different size front rim laced up on it to eliminate the 21" rim, unless that would be preferable, and use the rear KLR rim as is. Of course, spacers, sprocket alignment, etc. will all have to be considered and dealt with... but it can be done!
