Best Exhaust For Me

I'm bored and need something new to obsess about, so, what is the best exhaust for me?

I want some more power, BUT I don't want to get loud. Which pipe will come closest to my desire? I realize any non-stock exhaust will be louder, but I don't want Harley loud (that's why I sold my Harley) and I know I will need to rejet, so I would put a full system, not just a slip on (may as well do it right).

I just got my Hotbodies MGP Growler that's $265 and it sounds awesome, and there is also a noticeable difference in the power of the bike!!! It rocks!!!

It says no rejetting required. Did YOU rejet? Also, without rejetting how can you get any extra power out of it? Can you give me the details? I would love something this simple.

I didn't re-jet the carbs. I have no idea how it has more power, but it takes off faster and just runs smoother. Not to mention I could be heard coming a mile away. It's a lot better than the cat purr the stock exhaust sounded like!!! :-D

+1 for the AreaP quiet core. Good power and not obnoxiously loud.

Yeah, the Area P did look good. Pricey, but good. Is the increase in power noticable? When I put a Jardine on my Buell it was like night and day.

IMHO, after you select a full exhaust and jet the bike properly, they all turn out about 30hp.

On the street, may as well go for a relatively quiet exhaust that will accomplish what the noisy ones do... and supporting AreaP who has excellent customer service and who will be around to provide customer support down the line should you require any help with their product. It's the intangibles such as these that, for me, made AreaP the company to support.

That Kerry, the owner of AP, is such a great guy is a definite plus.

Well the MGP growler is loud but I don't think it's obnoxiously loud. Then again I play guitar at my church through a 100 watt amp head with a 260 watt speaker cabinet so my hearing maybe going bad

Well Dave, I never use more than a 30 watt amp in a Rush Tribute band, so that is definitely not the muffler for me.

Kelly, as you are the Godfather on the site, I will trust your recommendation. Is the boost in HP noticable? 30 HP is pretty low, but is the boost enough to warrant the cost? I'm looking for some power, not sound.

Peak HP goes up by a few with a full exhaust, but the rejetting is what nets the more usable (better throttle response) riding curve.

I would suggest you find someone who has added a full exhaust and rejetted, ride their bike and judge for yourself, though I've never heard of any rider that has been disappointed from the results of an exhaust and rejetting mod.

When I did my bike, I added things in steps and can honestly say the bike's hp and throttle response improved with each modification with the exception of yanking the airbox and adding the clamp on air filter. With that, there was some loss of low to midrange with a slight gain up top.

With modern bikes, the drill is pretty much the same to get a better running bike... uncork it (improve flow through the engine with intake and exhaust mods) and rejet (to take advantage/maximize the increase of air flow the uncorking provides).

kkim I think that is going to be my next performance mod. How much throttle response does re-jetting or adding a jetkit bring?
