Retreads
I was out on the freeway this afternoon. It was wonderful, then some idiot laddy in the lane next to me ran over a shedded retread and threw it right into me. Everything happened in slow motion. I tried to swirve, but the huge three foot by eight inch tread bounced off of the windscreen and hit me square in the chest. I threw it off me and kept going, but when I got off I had to fix my mirror. There was not much damage, just some scuffs on the wind screen and scratches on the mirror plastic. It hurt but I'm cool.

O_o that is some madness. Glad to hear you're ok. When the tread hit you in the chest did it bruise you? Or were you able to absorb most of the impact.
I have a few scratches on my bike from flailing rocks from the road. I dunno how to fix those. Friends advised sharpie markers, but that seems just...wrong. but glad to hear it didnt tear you off the bike =) you're a lucky man

Definitely lucky, you watch the Mythbusters about this? It definitely could have been much worse.

Could have been worse! Glad you are ok. Re-treads should be illegal.
If not illegal, at least have a highly visible sticker on the car that lets everyone know the vehicle is running re-treads.

if it wasn't for retreads some companies maintance cost would be too high to make any profit. it all depends who does retreads they are usually well done. most of the road debris come from driving on a flat too long they just come apart. this wouldnt be such a problem is the truck driver payed more attention when does his/her pretrip before leaving the yard!!!!!!!!

They should just make the tires with the deeper tread from the factory, so they will go as long as they can. That way a little safety margin could be had. Plus tire pressure sensors would be nice to see in those 18-wheelers.

Damage.
Well when I made my first post I though there was only scuffing on the windscreen, but it turns out there was a little more damage than I thought. On the left side of the windscreen the Plastic cracked. I used an epoxy and re attached it. I will have to start referring to it as a Battle Scar. I was planning on doing some custom Vinyl graphics, so I will just be surt that something goes over it so it is not noticable. The truth is you can't see the crack from 10 feet away.
(this was me when I saw that it was cracked). I've posted some pics. |
