1998 CDI, regrect, harness, coils, etc

I'd like to sell off the electricals from this bike as a clump. The box will include the CDI, solenoid, reg/rect, coils, and complete wiring harness ... $100 includes shipping anywhere in the lower 48 states. PM if interested.

Hey @Waldo1 I have a lot of this on a bike I'm stripping, anything in particular you're after? Or just the whole shooting match?

My son has a mid 90s and we have never gotten to run correctly. It will not idle. If you keep the RPMs above 3,000 it runs great. I have done a compression and leak down test with great results. I have gone through the valves many times. I have had others double check my work. I have ultrasonic cleaned the carbs and bought all new needs, jets, float needs and emulsion tubes. I am thinking at least replacing the carbs with known goo running carbs.

I am also thinking there might be a problem with the electrical system (CDI, Pick-up and coils).

If you still have any of these items I would be intereted.

Sorry Waldo I've been working on a couple Suzuki's and hardly get on here anymore!

Mine never was very happy idling below 3,000 or so, a lot of these bikes just seem to like having the idle set high. Is that the only problem you're having?

I saw this thread: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=192558 , are you still chasing those symptoms? Have you determined whether it's fuel or spark related? Sound like you've got no problem in the compression department.

My off the cuff thought is that if it's still an ignition issue causing your problem I'd be looking very closely at your battery. At low RPM's the charging system isn't really doing much and a weak battery could cause a weak spark condition.

If it's the same issues let's revive your old thread in the tech section. We'll get you figured out.

We never figured it out so my son bought an F4i. I have responded in the OG thread. I was leaning towards the ignition problem. I think at this point I will replace the coils, CDI and pickup coil. The battery is tops. It maintains volts and load when tested.

I put the harness with all the goodies up on ebay, here's the link if you're interested:

I have one, it's yours. I'll need to pull it out of a bad motor so it might be a couple days (Tuesday or Wednesday next week) before I can ship it all out.

Well I picked up a set of carbs which I was told came from a running bike. That did not fix my problem. We tried the CDI but they are not the same. I guess the next step is to swap the entire harness over and see if that fixes it.

The one off my son's bike is the one on the left

OK so you have the 21119-1233? I had a few of these around, I may have the 21119-1233. I'll dig around in storage and see if I can put my hands on it tomorrow. I had to use the wrong one on mine, just re-pinned the connector on the harness and made a couple of jumpers. There's half a dozen different ignition module part numbers for various pre-gen model years.

I though you said in the other thread that you had corrected the problem? You couldn't get it to idle down? Could you re-state what exactly is wrong at the moment? I had a 5,000+ RPM idle on my gs450 (also a twin with CV carbs), and it turned out at some point I had knocked the butterflies out of sync. 15 minute bench sync and it purred like a kitten, after chasing the problem around for 2 months.

Is there a way to re-wire my current system to use the CDI you sent? I guess I could just replace the whole harness.

I am trying to get the bike to run below 3k and/or idle. Still have not fixed the problem.

Two different sets of carbs and still have the same problem.
