Is this ninja 250 worth buying

I am negotiating with this guy about a 2008 ninja 250 with almost 3800 miles on it. At first he try to sell it for $5500, i told him i only have $4100.
He said he will let the bike go for $4500.

Also did he mention he put $1500 worth of after market stuff on the bike.
Below is a list of the stuff he put on the bike.

Gold Chain off of a 650r so the chain will probably outlast the bike!

Frame Sliders

Hotbodies Flush mount turn signals and tail light.

A darkened wind screen

A replacement Hotbody back seat cover.

monster vinyls and the green lip on the wheels

And a Two Bros. Racing Exhaust! very loud and high performance

Below are some pics

My question to y'all since im a new rider and never bought a bike before is if this is a good deal?
Looking forward to yalls responses

The exhaust looks like a slip-on, which means it's all noise and no power. If for some reason I am mistaken and it is a full system, then it needs to be jetted to get the maximum benefit from it.

Everything else is something he chose to do to the bike and none of it (not even the exhaust) adds to the value of the bike. I don't know about your area, but new-gen 250s can be found here in Georgia for about $3,500 or so with around 4-5K miles.

I'd offer him no more than $3,800 for it and that is assuming you care about all the extras. There are much better exhausts to be had and everything else done to the bike is trivial and done only for looks and "curb appeal". If I were you, I'd keep scouring craigslist and local used dealers and CycleTrader.

It's not worth $4500, and the mods that he listed (if that's a complete list in that post) aren't worth anywhere near $1500, even brand-new. Back of the envelope math says $700 at most.

Find out the decibel output for those "loud" pipes and if it's over 80db tell him you'd have to replace the entire exhaust to actually be legal, for that matter you're not even into "upgrades" especially on a 250 4-stroke, "I mean, come on dude?" Play him and see, if it doesn't work, definetly walk, definetly.

Perfect condition. 2872 miles. Leo vince exhaust. Re-jetted. Woodcraft clip ons. Ninja frame sliders. Awesome plastics. Tires perfect. Asking 3600 FIRM, I will not negotiate on lower price sorry. I need cash in hand for test drives and official transaction will have to be done at b of a and I will hand over keys. Test rides will be followed by myself. He is registered until March 2012. Garaged and BABIED. I will give stock exhaust pipe and passenger seat bike came with along with original plastics and maintenance records.

Sure, except she's crashed it several times (and posted about each of them on that same site), once hard enough to destroy all plastics, and she put it back together on the cheap with the ebay aftermarket fairing kits. If that bike is garaged and babied, I wonder how one would describe one that actually was well taken care of.

people don't list "rode it like i stole it, crashed it a few times but its fully repaired with ebay parts, my brother did some work on it and said it makes it faster... also there is a strange ticking sound." they list what you want to hear and hope you're not smart enough to know otherwise when you go to look at it.

Thanks guys for the tips, im realizing that 4500 is too much too,
he is willing to drop the bike off at my house and get the title signed over and stuff... i don't see any bikes that are close in the neighborhood for sale.
if he doesn’t drop his price i will just wait till a good deal pops up,
thanks for the help and advice

lets put it this way, MSRP is $4000 for a brand new bike. the mods are meaningless to you (or so you want him to think anyway) so that adds nothing to the value. that seat cowl... well you plan on riding two-up, so unless he gives up the rear seat with it, that drops the price. (or so you want him to think) its got 4000 miles... i wouldn't pay over $2800ish for it.
"these bikes sell for this price all the time" he says? "so go sell it for that price somewhere else" you say.

with any luck and a little determination you can haggle him down to a reasonable price. don't settle for a price you're not happy with. even if you're buying a new bike.

meh. why lie? tell them what you will pay and don't pay more than that. if they don't want to sell it for what you're willing to pay, move on. It's not like there is only one on earth.

i have no idea about import laws or procedures but i'm sure someone else here does. but the best advice i think anyone can give is: be patient. rushing into settling on paying more is something you will regret for a long time. you'll be proud of yourself for waiting for a great deal, and one will come along. just be patient.

I was going to mention that many of his mods are useless and some, like the muffler, may even have to be reversed to make it legal.

My favorite craigs list questions for sellers:

1. Do you have a clear title for it? -- some have salvage titles and I'd stay away from those because it means the bike was probably totaled and then pieced together from parts off ebay. I actually had a kid write back and say that the bank had the title, but that it was OK because they'll never find me.

2. How many miles on it? -- Many times, if they don't tell you or post a photo of the odometer, then it probably has a bigger number than the national debt.

3. Do you still have the <insert part> you took off to make it look cool? -- Most of the time its because they wrecked it and didn't have the money to properly repair it. A plastic-less streetfighter is worth at least $800 less than a bike with all its plastics.

The bottom line is that if its not a good deal, don't be afraid to walk away.

For $4500 why wouldn't you just go buy a new one?

Do your self a favor. Do not buy any bike with out thinking on it for at least 24 hours. Any dealer can order a new bike if a new one is what you want but wait and scope craigslist and you will find one at the right price.

Search in a larger radius. I drove 40 miles to the dealer with the lowest price.

Pit dealers against eachother as well. i.e. This other guy has 250's for $4700 out the door.

When buying a new bike, MSRP doesn't matter, its all the fees that the dealer likes to stack on so what you will be looking at is MSRP + Tax + Fees. Play hardball and buy from whoever gives you the lowest price

And don't be in a hurry to buy. They can sense urgency XD

I talked to my dealer. Brand new 2011 Ninja 250R for $3500. Out the door for about $4000. Plus tax and tag. Actual out the door price about $4200. So honestly, paying more than $3500 for a USED Ninja 250R seems a bit foolish.

And I think its a bad idea to try to buy one online. You are talking about buying one you have never seen. If there are no dealers in your area, then its time for a road trip.

As far as the extra stuff on that guy's bike. Would YOU pay $1500 for that stuff? That is, if you already had a brand new Ninja, would you insist on running out and buying that stuff?

when i was getting a bike i wanted one as soon as i was able to get one but i waited till the one i wanted came along. it only took a couple weeks but at the price and color i got mine i couldnt be happier. if your going to spend 3000 dollars on a motorcycle dont settle for a bike just so you can have one now. Get the one YOU want

I may not know much about motorcycles, but YIKES. Our brand spanking new 2011 250R was MUCH less than that, including tax and tags. I'd pass on it.
