Handlebar replacement, suggestions...?

I'm just learning to ride, I was practicing U-turns and dropped the bike going too slow. The right side aluminum bar mount (On the EX250H/ZZR) just snapped at the bolt, the mirror glass was broken too.

Really my fault, cause it was only held on by one bolt to begin with, so with the other bolt probably would have been okay I feel.

It still works, but only one bolt hole now, and the handlebar mount looks pretty jacked up. Somehow I think my road examiner might not be too impressed if they saw that. And it looks like the next time I drop it, it'll snap for good.

What's the best method of replacement without spending much money? What's the consensus about clip-on bars?

If I want to add a through bar with a riser (I've been thinking of turning it into a street fighter) is it absolutely necessary to drill holes, or can you somehow get away without doing it?

How about one like this...?

Sorry to hear about your crash and damage! you OK?

No way to mount bar-risers without drilling top triple-T.
Personally I would remove upper triple-clamp in order to mark location of holes precisely and use drill-press.

Do you want higher bars? It appears pre-gen Ninja 250 bar-mounts would fit your bike. I have left & right set I can send you. The handlebars themselves should transfer across OK.

Hey thanks for the concern, and I'm fine haha. Basically the bike kind of slowly fell. When I realized I couldn't catch it, I jumped out of the way.

Until now I didn't actually realize the pregen Ninja mounts were higher up than the ZZR. But I definitely wouldn't mind having higher bars. So let's talk for sure.
I still don't quite understand how the handlebars fit into the mounts, I thought they were welded on or something. But I guess they're glues in there...? I'll take a closer look today.

Although I would like to add risers eventually, and turn the bike into a street fighter style But I think that it's a bit too involved for me at the moment.

If you want to go the standard handlebar route, yes you can get adapters like the example you posted but those things are pricey, like a few hundred to get from Japan. Not remotely cost efficient.

I drilled out 2 of the existing holes in my triple tree to put some universal bar clamps on (along with some spacers and such) for a handlebar conversion. Needed longer custom length cables after that though.

Hmm right. I think using the universal bar clamp like you said would be easier.

But as an aside, am I right in saying the handlebars are glued to the mounts somehow on the ZZR? I can't figure out how they can come off and on. They seem either glued or welded.

look at end where they go into mount. Is there socket-cap bolt holding them in? If they are glued, I can send some bars with mounts.

If you want flat bars, you can also get 2-piece clamps like used in this conversion:

Handlebars don't use glue.

Looks like the ZZR/H, unlike the F, handlebar comes in one piece. This is where I started getting confused reading other posts lol. But I'll include a few pics so tell me what you think. I'm curious how they built this style of bars, there's no visible welds.

try removing mount from triple-clamp and looking underneath. There may be pinch-bolt holding bar to mount.

I looked a few times but no such thing unfortunately.

But I think I'll take you up on your offer Danno, about the bars/mounts, if you're still willing to. That's very kind of you.

I believe they will work without any major mods. Now I just want to focus on riding and getting my skills better, later maybe I'll do some mods lol.

I will PM you about the details.

yes, taller bars are easier for beginners to practice and learn with. Lower bars tend to place more weight on your wrists and make it more difficult to turn bike. Having strong back will help you hold up your upper body without using your arms or wrists.
