My baby is sick! =(
I have a stock 2007 with 16k miles on it. I bought her with 9.5k so I have put 7k on the bike myself. I did an oil change, oil filter, and spark plugs when I first bought her. I then changed the oil again at 13k and she is now due her oil change since I do my oil changes at 3.5k. I moved homes and trailer-ed the bike to my new home. I went out on a ride and about a few miles out she just died. She had half a tank of gas so she was not on empty and she had already used up half a tank of gas so I assume the gas was fine. I waited a few minutes playing with the reserve and just messing with the choke and everything else I knew but she still wouldn't crank. Before I started to take off my gear to call someone for help I tried to crank her one more time for "$h!ts and giggles" and she turned right on so I shot out like a "bat-outa-hell" and made it home. I have not been able to keep her running since. At first she would crank with full choke on but would turn off when I gave her gas. Now she barely cranks up with full choke. She cranks then after a few minutes she just shuts off. She will not turn back on but if I let her sit for a few hours I can go back out there, crank her up but again after a few minutes she turns off again. I really haven't had time to play too much with her and am planning to do an oil and oil filter change this week plus maybe the plugs too just to see if it helps out.
She was being ridden about once or twice a week before the problem began due to cold temps and she has always been inside a garage. Any hints / suggestions?? |

It seems that you engine is starving for gas.
Check the plumbing from the gas tank to the float valves,...........don't forget any in-line fuel filter. Your carbs need to be fed with around 2 c.c. per second.

Make sure the petcock is flowing properly.
Other than that, sounds like what mine did when it needed a carb cleaning. If nothing has changed except it sitting inside and not getting ridden often, it points to dirty carbs to me. Gas can go bad quicker than you think, and the ninjette has tiny carbs that get gummed up easily. |

there is a super tiny filter sitting inside the fuel inlet tube coming out of the carb. check that for blockage first because its easy to get to.

You guys are amazing...it WAS starving for GAS!! GlassAnkles wins the price but only cause he knew I was a dummy and needed pics
The filters in his pics were caked/blocked up just like in his pic. I cleaned carefully and checked the inside of the tank as best as possible to remove any other debris. (found a little, my fault...I know exactly where it came from) I put her back together and after a few laps up and down the road and then to the gas station...ALL IS WELL!! Thanks all who chimed in and for the thoughts, yall were right on! Thanks for the knowledge and confidence I could do it myself...sho nuff...I fixed her with out the need to spend a million bucks at a shop. THANKS AGAIN!! |

I promise I searched this forum for the answer but I just could not find anything definitive. I truly had a hunch that i was just not getting gas (which makes me proud and feel like I am learning) but just needed a place to start.
Again...I say THANKS! I truly appreciate you guys and this site for the knowledge. |

Tony, glad you solved the fuel flow problem, but to prevent it from happening again, you should add a regular filter in between the petcock and the carb. Also, when putting it up for any length of time, shut the petcock off and ride it around the house until it stalls out. This drains the bowls and helps keep stuff from plugging up from lacquer and other deposits.

petcock / bogging in mid range / dies after a minute
issues like this with new gas, mid range bogging, but idled fine... checked small inlet filter to carb and was clean, but no gas was coming out the hose when I removed it...put petcock in normal (6 o'clock) position and gas game gushing like it should have... tried blowing in line for "reserve" position and it's got a clog or something in it...runs just fine again.
