REBELS WITH A CAUSE continental tour - 42 states in 6 months + itinerary

The cause is to safeguard our children and life on Earth from global warming by CO2, and RUNAWAY GLOBAL WARMING by methane (released from the melting permafrost and Arctic ocean deposits), which has in fact begun as of 2007. For more details of both the cause and the project, please visit my websites www.HOPE-CARE.org and www.myspace.com/AnthonyMarr.

I've taken time to choose my campaign vehicle, which will go the entire 20,000-mile+ route. The criterion for this cause is of course fuel economy. I've looked at electric cars, but the Tesla, though more than capable, at $100,000 is way beyond my means. The Aptera, at a more reasonable $30,000, is not ready for the market. Most electric cars don't have the range, and most hybrids are just incremental improvements over small gasoline vehicles. So the logical category is the motorcycle, and my chosen mount is - you guessed it - a Kawasaki Ninja ZZR 250, selected for its proven dependability, beauty, performance, ease of maintenance, and most of all, fuel economy (city/hwy 55-75 mpg). I've replace the 14-teeth stock front sprocket with a 15-teeth one, to increase the fuel economy even further, to perhaps 85 mpg on the highway. It's said that the medium is the message; in this case, the vehicle is the message.

It would be great if lots of Baby Ninjas or Ninjettes show up for rides on this tour, which will be covered by media in many places. It would be even greater if lots of female riders show up, as an inspiration for other women to take up the sport and specifically the Ninjette. All in all, this tour will give bikers a good name!

For those interested in riding part of this route, here is the itinerary.

Impressive dedication I must say! Don't think I'd be able to do a 20,000 mile trip on my ZZR-250.

I'd definitely want to meet up while your in Calgary and would love to help out in anyway possible.
Lunch is on me!

Sent you an add request on myspace, and great looking site you have there too.
You've done some amazing work.
I'll PM you my email so we can keep in contact.

I'd love to offer you lunch or some other support, but I'm not on your itinerary.
I'm in Hamilton, which would be between
St. Catherines (08-29) &

Hey Brian,

No Problem. As you know, our bikes are highly mobile. The itinerary is not cast in stone. I will go where the action is. Go get some action going and I'll be there! - with your local TV in tow hopefully.

We're also organizing a massive biker rally around Parliament Hill, Ottawa, on Aug. 29, 2009, Saturday, which, if successful, will be a first. We're contacting listed motorcycle clubs on Ontario and Quebec to participate. Do you belong to any of these clubs?

Here is a thought. Have you ever been to Fort McMurray? Is it too far for you to go?

No, I don't belong to any of the clubs.
And, I would be more than willing to try and arrange for the local TV crew to come down to see you. It probably won't be CBC, but I know the local news would probably do a short story on it, haha... I'm not going to do anything now, but I will when it gets a little closer.

That would be terrific my friend. The little Ninja needs to be seen on TV as often as possible! (And I have always love the black ones).

Maybe we can even bring some traffic to ninjette.org haha :P That'd be nice eh Alex?

At the very least if I can't get a TV crew, I will get the local newspaper to come out. I know they would do it.

Of benefit to the Ninja 250 from the tour is that we are demonstrating its capability for long distance touring. I don't mean a day ride to a park; I mean 6 months touring through 40 states in all weather and geographical conditions (except hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards and off road). I'm confident the Ninjette can do it, and do it on 80+mpg (I have a 15-teeth front sprocket put on to it).

Yes, it is quite a distance from Calgary, probably 8+ hours. Fort McMurray is the headquarters of the tar sands mines. Some reporter there wants to talk to me if I go up there with a bike troop.

About how many riders do you think they would want?

According to google maps its an 11 hour ride from Okotoks where I live.
Main problem would be places to stay I'd think.
Don't know if I'd be able to do that or not in one sitting on a bike.

I was just thinking aloud. My original plan is to ride from Vancouver to Edmonton, from Edmonton to Fort McMurray with some Edmonton riders, then from Fort Mc back to Edmonton, and from Edmonton to Calgary, and from Calgary down to the U.S. So, it doesn't work to have you ride from Calgary to Fort Mc anyway. But yesterday, somebody from Calgary suggested that I go to Calgary first, then to Edmonton, which will add miles to the trip, so I don't think I would do that. I'll most likely just stay with the original plan. If the people in Calgary talk me into go to Calgary first, I'll let you know. One way or the other, my stay in Edmonton will be at a friend's home, where there will be room for a couple of other riders.

I love the MD area. In my last tour (July 1 - Oct 10, 2008), and in fact several other tours, I spent a lot of time in the MD, DC, VA, WV, NJ, PA, DE, NY, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, ME areas, and loved it. I usually deliberately schedule my travels in the US NE to be around October for the very reason of seeing the fall colors (but usually hustle off back west or down south before the snow flies , this coming tour likewise.

I hope you will join me and bring your friends when I ride (not drive) back to MD next fall, and also participate in the mass bike rally in DC. Till then, see you at ninjette.org.

I'm sure the ocmoto.com community will be able to help when you're in southern california... We had a 300+ ride event a couple weeks ago---looooooots of riders here... I'm sure some would even be down to ride to vegas with you. If i were to come, i would come to sedona/flagstaff and from there take off to phoenix (if i had other riders with me) and ride from phoenix back to orange county. would be a blast.

i think on my ninja my butt would start aching after a while--i need to get gel inserts if i'm going to come along for the ride.

it's going to be quite a journey!

Hi Keyvan,

Thanks for the encouraging message. I just checked out ocmoto.com. You're not kidding about its being a force in So Cal! Yes it would be great if you guys could come out for a ride.

I just drew up a tour route map and posted it on www.myspace.com/Anthony Marr

Do take a look. I'll see if I could post it here.

Talk soon, my friend.

Hey Gene,

Thank you for your response. That would be great. If you are feeling adventurous, maybe you would consider taking a spin in Florida? Anyway, touching base with you when I come to SC would be terrific. Please check my profile once in a while for possible changes. Already, I might stay in NC for a couple of days more. If you know anyone else who ride, please do call them out. Take care my buddy.
