Instrument cluster on an FZ6
Yeah...I know but I have 2 bikes...I'm rich.
05 FZ6....crashed a few weeks ago. The cluster is an LCD and displays all types of nice info but after the crash...all I have showing is the time disply...which works...keeps accurate time. All other info does not light up. No damage to wires, plugs, signals blink, hi-lo...everything esle works. No fault codes showing either. When I disconnect it and reconnect it...the whole disply shows all info...for a second...and then blank out again. Jigglin' the plug does nothing...display does not return until it's disconnect and then reconnected. Speedo was not impacted in crash. Any thought ? |

Hard to say whether it's a gauge problem or an ECU problem.

If you plug it in and all the info is there, then vanishes, it sounds like the display. Of course that is hard to say. I am not sure if the display is JUST a display, or if it actually interprets some data on the gauge panel itself. If the bike crashed, the top of the bike tends to experience more g-forces than the center of the bike. Those LCD's are rather fragile, so that is why I'm thinking it is that. Don't quote me on that though.
Troubleshooting via the net is horrible compared to being there in person.

I think Alex is on track with the ECU comment.
Noticed something today....while clock always shows and works.....it doesn't go beyond the hour 1. No codes, RESET and SELECT dont work.... I dunno....just put a chain and new Metzlers on this bike but the fact is that the ninjette took over as my fave for the past 4 years....maybe put 3000 mi on the FZ in 4 years. Gonna test the market on the FZ site....$2k would make me real happy. |
