What should I expect if I trade.

Been a while since I've posted.

Been really tempted to upgrade lately too. Personally, I feel ready and I've been putting a lot of thought and consideration into this. Just wondering for those of you that have upgraded, what are some good deals you've gotten? If I trade in my modded white 250, what difference should I expect if I were going for an r6 or a ZX6R or CBR600 (as in, i trade my 250 in, how much more should I probably expect to owe for a good bike?). And how should I go about doing these things? Craigslist? Or perhaps a dealer?

All replies appreciated. Thanks. :-)

Mods increase the value of your bike by nearly $0

it goes off alot of things,km,marks, over all looks, any mods will be a loss.Do you have stock parts if so put it back on.If you dont own your bike as in its not paid off that will be taking off first to pay your debt.Only real way is to go to a few places and ask them to write you a trade in calulation.

I have never made it out of a trade in not feeling like I got screwed, most the time I won't do it. A bike I imagine would be even worse. I normally try and get a few payments ahead early so I am not upside down on something should I want to get rid of it but I never get what I think I should and then i walk away.

Don't expect much. They'll offer you as little as possible. Your best option will be to take it back to stock, sell on CL, and then sell the aftermarket parts; but that takes time and requires you to have a market looking to buy exactly what you're selling and can be very hit or miss if you're really in need of the money before you can get a different bike.

Your next best bet is to just sell the bike on CL as it is.

Personally, if a change makes me waffle that badly, its usually because I'm attempting to justify it. I had the same argument with myself about a 600 last season. Then I rode one all summer and had a huge blast, but it also made me realize how impractical a 600 would be for me atm. Later, sure! Big bikes are a hoot! But not for me right now.

Motorcycle dealers are pretty much the same as car dealers. Never had a good experience with either, but a couple of times have gotten less screwed than other times. The more cash you have, the better. Be prepared to politely walk if they really try to work you. It's a game.
