Chopped fender & Installed lights in pods
Today I chopped my fender and put extra brake lights in empty pods. I also relocated the turn signals further back as part of the fender chop. It looks so good I wish I had done it sooner.

I just made my '00 250 a real streetfighter. No modified/replacement headlights and such. Stock nakedness. It was too dark for pics when I was done. I'll post them soon.

Check out my chop, turn signal integration, clear lenses and flush mounts on my 07 that I did back in Oct. 2008. I made the bracket myself. After chopping the fender, I resprayed it to eliminate any scuff marks from the chop and file. I made the bracket using the directions from this site>> License Plate Bracket

Wow that looks so clean. I have the newer model but I still love the way the old one's look...especially the super clean ones.

Thanks! I took extra care in making sure that everything was done neatly. After chopping the fender, I filed where I cut with the hacksaw. The fender/wheel-well looked gritty after taking the hacksaw to it. After filing, I sanded the whole piece down and resprayed it black.
I also replaced the dark plastic piece in the brake light pod so that the license plate gets illuminated by the brake light. |

Nice, that's about what I did.
Remember to put piece of tape on the hole on the wheel well right behind the tail light. Helps to seal when you get caught in the rain.

My comp werkes fender elim does basically the same thing, but it's stainless steel and it's bolt-on. Comes with a stainless bracket and signal mounts if you don't want to pull the integration. And it comes with a clear plastic lense to replace the other one. The lense already has adhesive on it, so all you have to do is peel the tape and stick. And I think it looks pretty good. Same level of seal as the original, but with a little extra trunk space. It was probably more expensive than your alternatives though...

It's loud for sure. Definitely not for people with sensitive ears. I need to get ear plugs because they might be damaging LOL. Thanks for the reminder.

I do believe thats why the bottom of the rear brake light has a clear lens on it. so it can be used as a plate light.

Yeah but it doesn't have a clear lens on it stock. You have to remove the solid lens and put your own clear lens on it.

Looks to me like you have a new gen bike. The ones we're talking about here are pregens. As to the lighting question, you might try something else?

take the little plastic cover out of the bottom of the tail light and then replace it with a piece of a clear CD case. Than since you have a running taillight, it will double as a plate light. Thats what i did at least

Question for you pre-gen folks with the chop... I really like the way it looks, but I live back 1/4 mile of gravel and ride everyday - even in the rain pretty frequently. How much more crap do you get sprayed up on you after doing the chop? Does the tail light get dirt fast etc? I'm mostly worried about getting my backpack covered in mud/water since I keep my computer in there. Of course, if its raining I usually put a trash bag on it...
I like the chop, just not sure if it would be worth it for me.

My license plate acts like a fender and keeps rain and other things from being kicked up. The chop has been worth it to me.
