Andrea Dovizioso has topped the first session of free practice for the MotoGP class at Le Mans. The Ducati rider was quick from the start of the session, among the group of riders swapping the lead throughout, before putting in a very quick lap at the end of the session to take a quarter of a second lead over 2nd place man Marc Marquez.

Marquez got off to a tricky start, twice suffering technical problems with his Honda RC213V. In the first half of practice, he was forced to park the bike up and then push it back the wrong way down pit lane to the Repsol Honda garage. Fortunately, he did so as directed by the marshals, thereby avoiding a penalty. Marquez was soon up to speed on his second bike, ending the session in 2nd. It was not apparent what the cause of the technical problems were, but the bike spent the rest of the session in the pits. With Marquez having already lost one engine, he cannot afford to suffer a problem with another. Jorge Lorenzo took 3rd spot, but more impressive than that was the strong string of fast laps he posted, continuing his form from Jerez.
