[cycleworld.com] - How Much Power Does the 2022 Yamaha XSR900 Make?

How much power does the Yamaha XSR900 produce? We put the retro-inspired inline triple on the Cycle World dyno to find out.

The 2022 XSR900 is one of four Yamahas using the bLU cRU’s popular inline-triple CP3 engine platform, and is considered the fan favorite by many. The XSR sits in Yamaha’s Sport Heritage lineup, separated from the naked MT-09 and MT-09 SP models and the Tracer 9 GT sport tourer primarily by styling inspired by 1980?s two-stroke TZ and YZR500 race bikes. Radical.

Like the rest of those models, the XSR received a significant upgrade for the 2022 model year. The most notable changes are found in the CP3 inline-triple engine package, including a displacement increase from 847cc to 890cc, aimed at maintaining performance while meeting stricter Euro 5 emissions standards. The rest of the internal changes were covered in our first ride review of the 2022 XSR900.

Horsepower and torque figures of the 2022 Yamaha XSR900 recorded on the Cycle World dyno. (Robert Martin Jr./)After completing that initial review, we placed the XSR aboard Cycle World’s in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, recording horsepower and torque measurements. The CP3 produced a peak 105.97 horsepower at 9,970 rpm and 63.49 pound-feet of torque at 7,030. As reference, the 2020 XSR that we dyno tested recorded 103.98 horsepower and 58.92 pounds of torque. The torque spread is up across the rev range, with peak torque coming about 1,000 rpm earlier. It’s also worth noting that the peak horsepower increase is delivered at nearly the same rpm, although the curve tapers sooner and more aggressively as it reaches its reduced 10,500 rpm redline, down from 11,200 rpm.
