Umm, amazing! How did they get the controls to work out? The one hand would have to do clutch/brake/throttle and one foot would have to do both brake and shift. That's a lot to fit on one side.

Not only getting around but hauling ass, amazing.

Did he lose his limbs in a motorcycle accident? or at least after he knew how to ride? LEARNING how to ride with that disability seems like it would be incredibly hard.

Found out who he is: Alan Kempster (Love his number plate - "1/2" )

From TwoWheelTusday

Quote:
We all like to complain about being sore or injured when riding motorcycles. Well let us introduce you to Alan Kempster. Alan was out for a riding one day when a truck driven by a drunk driver hit him on his motorcycle. Alan lost his right arm and leg in the accident. Most people would have give up extreme sports or sports all together. Alan instead of feeling sorry for himself decided to take up water skiing.

Alan then decided he wants to return to motorcycles and ride again. Alan rigged up a Left Hand throttle, brake, and clutch configuration. He racing now in Formula 400 with race number is 1/2 fitting to his situation.

Alan Kempster is a truly inspirational person by returning to motorcycles and what most people would say is impossible. Well we take our hat off to Alan and his determiniation.

I could beat you with one arm tied behind my back! Or completely missing!

I would love to see his left hand throttle/brake/clutch configuration, or even better a video of him operating it during a race. Some of my favorite motogp shots are always of the hand control operation -- so smooth. This guy was so great in the video below, his hand control must be just complete artwork.

(Edit: lol, just did a search to try to find pics of his controls. Didn't find them yet, but found the following comments on other bbs: "Hmm, wonder if A-Stars makes stump sliders?" and "Wow, I've heard racers take cutting bike weight seriously, but geez.") Also found this vid of Alan Kempster:

I guess I have a different perspective. Humiliating would be the guy in the video giving everyone on the track a 20 second head start, and as he passed everyone, he gives them the middle finger. In this video, he is showing that he is a pretty good rider. It just so happens that he is missing an arm and a leg. To say that it's humiliating insinuates that this guy is at a disadvantage, which doesn't seem to be the case at all.

We have a similar perspective. But to see what someone with skill and hard work can accomplish with less certainly makes one feel as if one could do more, no?

I see so many people who are obviously good riders missing limbs due to accidents. It's the only thing about riding that really scares me.

This is freaking awesome. I have a friend with one arm that has always wanted to learn to ride but was afraid you wouldn't be able to because of his ability. I'll have to show him this.
