I have not read the book. My guess would be that the Wall St. investors are doing some heavy investing in oil futures.

That seems to be the general thought. I thought the same until I read this book a while back. It makes alot of compelling arguments. It changed my mind anyway.

The US government or a different government? OPEC has been determining oil prices since the 60's.

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/454413/OPEC

Quote:
OPEC members coordinate policies on oil prices, production, and related matters at semiannual and special meetings of the OPEC Conference.
Quote:
OPEC members collectively own about two-thirds of the world’s proven petroleum reserves and account for two-fifths of world oil production.
I haven't read the book, but from the description, the author relates oil prices to politics. He's most likely right. OPEC is made up of many middle eastern nations and when something makes them mad, they just raise oil prices. The wall street investors are only betting on what they see from OPEC. Now, the US could affect prices if the environmentalists didn't have such strong lobbying powers. There's a lot of oil in Alaska, but we aren't drilling much.

$3.71 at my nearest station to home. I found one for $3.61. I'm sure my local costco would be slightly cheaper than that.

I don't really pay attention anymore. It's between 3 and 4. I know in the city (SF) it's 5 at some places.

BTW if you think gas is expensive, i guess you haven't bought ink in a while!

Hold on to your wallet. Wholesale gas went up to $3.00 a gallon today.
$3.60-$3.70 at the pump here, by Thursday.
BET ON IT.
Count on a $.15-$.20 increase at your local station.

$3.38 for low grade, $3.58 for premium here and that's the cheapest station in a 30 mile radius . I've seen premium all the way up to $3.75 at some places...

It takes fuel to move that milk, along with everything else. Dont expect to get a break in the price of anything with fuel prices rising.
BTW Milk here is $1.25 a gallon Just bought me some 2%.

I just read my post from late last night. I meant to say half gallon for $1.25. OOOOOOOPS. Sorry, either way Its still cheaper than what you pay for milk. I guess living in cow country does have its advantages.

That is some crazy price gouging on the Plus and Super fuel. Usually, the plus is $.10 higher and the Super is $.20 above (altho many stations now add in another few cents on the Super.)

Damn. I wonder what it will be in next 10 years, huh?

This makes me glad I bought two wheeled bike.

And the pic up there, I wouldn't bother to stop by for food since gotta use up the money for fuel if I'm running low and just came right out of empty road driving from nowhere. bleh.

Apparently here in Billings, MT we have the cheapest gas of any metropolitan area in the US (according to CNN) at $3.15. This is the first time I heard Billings referred to as a "metropolitan area," however
