[RideApart] - Harley's Battle of the Kings Custom Build Back for 2018

Harley-Davidson's Battle of the Kings Custom Build Back for 2018

Harley-Davidson's Battle of the Kings custom build contest will return for the fourth year running next year. The build-off typically pits dealerships in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) market against one another, but this year will allow customers to join in the fun.

At least that will be the case in the UK and Republic of Ireland, where dealers are looking for customers to partner their build, with the incentive of winning back their customizing expenses up to £5,500 ($7,250) if their bike wins the UK/ROI round of the competition. A minimum of 50 percent of the pieces must be official Harley-Davidson parts (in value), and the entry must be street legal.

Customers wishing to commission a Battle of the Kings machine from a participating dealer are urged to get in touch with their local dealer before the end of October to allow time for the bike build to be completed ahead of the public vote in January. Models eligible for entry to the 2018 edition of Battle of the Kings are: Iron 883, Forty-Eight, Roadster, Street 750, Street Rod, Street Bob, and Fat Bob.

All customers need is an idea for the Battle of the Kings machine to be created – inspired by a motorcycle from the vast 115 years of Harley-Davidson heritage – and it must adhere to the rules of the competition, including a maximum customization budget spend of £5,500 (US $7,250). Full terms and conditions are available from all dealers.

The tradition of customizing Harley-Davidsons forms a large part of the company’s history, and over the decades has developed as a strong component of the brand’s heritage. Many of the newer models have been designed with individual custom builders in mind, offering a ready-made platform for creative ideas and personalized craftsmanship. The Dark Custom bikes, in particular, are stripped-down and styled with an authentic retro-inspired style, featuring matte or blacked-out finishes, vintage cues and accessible pricing.
